Cam Newton out against the Texans

CHARLOTTE – Quarterback Cam Newton, who sat out Sunday’s win at Arizona, will also miss this week’s game at Houston with a foot injury. 

“What Cam needs right now is time and rest for his foot. We want him at 100 percent when he’s ready, so there’s no exact timetable for his return,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “At this point, we’re going to go forward with Kyle (Allen) as our starter.” 

Allen went 19-for-26 with 261 yards with four touchdowns and a 144.4 passer rating against the Cardinals to improve his career record to 2-0.

Well, that was fast.  So much for Cam being "day to day."  I wonder if Allen shows out again against Houston if this foot injury of Cams turns into an IR type situation?

Allen made that choice a hell of a lot easier than it could have been.

Cam is out to the bye. We’re playing the easiest leg of our schedule until then. We need Cam at 100% for the playoff push.

basically, were going to give cam a chance to get to 100% and when healthy come out and play at a high level, if he doesnt, welp, you know how this story ends.

cam being 100% means being able to actually run the ball again...

Not to give Ron credit here but to try to understand his situation here.. He knows that this success of this season will determine his employment. If I knew my job was based on that I would do whatever it took to give myself the best chance to win and not be overly concerned about the long term (play Cam when hurt rather then resting him)

With that in mind I think that may be why Cam was 'encouraged' to play through it more than he seems to be now.

Another reason Allen’s performance yesterday is good is it gives the team confidence to let Cam rest and not rush. If we can win games while he’s out then it takes massive pressure off everyone.
