A) A healthy Cam Newton is still possible. If that can happen, he is better than the majority of NFL QBs.

B) Cam has been 90% of the identity of the Panthers for so long, trading him would take a HUGE chunk of the fan base away. If anything (big if) they offer him a smaller contract and let him choose to leave. At least that way it was his decision ultimately.

C) I am not positive Cam passes any physical any time soon to be traded. Not just the foot, the shoulder too.

NOW

Say they decided to just keep running with Allen if when Cam gets Healthy

What do you do at Seasons end

Thats a Awful Lot of $$ for a guy to ride the bench.

your post did not say "who from the panthers said..."... it asked who said it... I provided you the link.

I asked for fully healthy or 100% tho I would prefer it be from panthers than random speculation that post still didn’t say that. Healed well is not the same as 100%.

His health is not the only consideration here. His health relative to his contract is likely a much bigger issue.

Too many on this board don’t get that. They think the Panthers should pay Can for what he has done, but they can’t do that. They have to pay Cam (and anyone else they sign) for what they are expected to do during the future years of the contract.

Your sentiment is dead on. A contract for a player like Cam (long running injuries that affected play) have to include that variable.

A.  If by majority you mean 16th or better than yeah.

B.  No one player should define a franchise, if you base trading or not off of popularity contests then you're doing it wrong.

C.  Me either.

C is a valid point.

I don't really believe they would trade him either, but if he doesn't return to full health I definitely think retirement is a possibility.

He won't say that until he gets the fat guaranteed money from the next contract.

The only way I want Cam Newton returning to the team is if he can fully practice three days a week. The “new normal” of him practicing once a week or not at all is not going to win a Super Bowl or even make the playoffs. If he is going to come back and the best he can do is practice once a week or just play in the games, he should keep resting until he can practice a full week. If he can’t ever practice fully again, he should retire.

Nobody abandoned ship when Steve was cut or Jake.

The year after Jake left was an abysmal season that saw very little fan support. Steve left when the Panthers already had a superstar. Neither Jake nor Steve Smith had the star power of Cam.

Given the history of his last few years, giving him "fat guaranteed money" would be an extreme risk.

I agree, but if the franchise values him as some kind of savior to the franchise just because of his previous success... They might be more inclined to give it in good faith that he returns to "form". I'm just hoping we do what's right to get back to winning. We have far too much talent on this team to settle for mediocracy every single year.
