2019 Draft Looking Solid!

The 2019 draft could be one of Hurney’s best drafts overall. Perhaps Tepper knows what he is doing as it was stated his influence was considered on this draft... Let’s look at the picks shall we?

1. Brian Burns- seems safe to say he is the real deal and possible defensive rookie of the year. We wanted more pressure on the QBs and he has delivered. Three cheers for Spidey!

2. Greg Little- he has concussion issues, but looks to be the real deal at LT. Something that was missed since Gross retired many moons ago. SEC linemen are usually good picks (see Turner and Daley).

3. Will Grier- he remains the big question of this draft. Allen has played so well we haven’t had to see Grier play yet. However if we trade Allen or Cam in the offseason, Grier should be the backup QB of the future for a cheap price. Regardless he seems to have the arm and now gets to sit back and learn the offense.

4. Christian Miller- his mustache alone makes him worth the pick! On a side note, he has several sacks and many pressures as a 4th round rookie. Looks to have a lot of talent and should get better as he had limited games played in college. Another solid SEC lineman.

5. Jordan Scarlett- looked like the real deal in preseason, but has not had an opportunity to play any regular season snaps. He is third on our depth chart and happens to play behind the MVP of the league in CMC, but he is cheap depth at worst. Not bad for a 5th rounder.

6. Dennis Daley- graded out as one of the league’s top LTs in one of his two starts. Should give Little a run for his money as the future LT for the Carolina Panthers. I would say he is the biggest steal if the draft when you look at value. Another solid SEC lineman.

7. Terry Godwin- late round picks are easy to miss on. Many of us were favs of his during the preseason. With our WR depth looking thin, we could use him now... however, he was snatched up by the Jags.

Overall looks like a solid draft to me... We solidified both our defensive and offensive line and got some depth behind CMC.

It looks like a strong group and a lot of credit should go to our scouting department and Hurney. On the Godwin note: we aren't privy to things like how well he was learning the playbook and if he was listening to his position coaches well. There's a lot of the evaluation process that outsiders will never understand.
