New beat writer joining The Observer

Local news outlets are the bastard step child (especially in small markets) for NFL breaking news.  When teams want something released, they want it to go national and use the ESPNs, NFLNs etc people.  I hope no one really believes that Scheter has moles in all the organizations feeding him this under the table.  When teams don’t want something known, then it is the local reporter that does the digging.  Of course this doesn’t endear them to team mgmt and can cause friction.  So usually a symbiotic non threatening  relationship is established with some access and mostly plain vanilla reporting.

Berkeley huh...she will fit in just fine with the Observer

Not sure I follow here, Hayseed. Cal is a very prestigious school. However, if you are this upset about it; you and G5 should take a stand and protest by finding a different NFL team to root for.

There's a general perception that Jerry Richardson didn't exactly allow full transparency with The Observer for a long time.

Given the way his story turned out, that wouldn't exactly be a huge surprise.

Richardson’s story saddened me because he was someone I had previously held in very high regard, particularly because he built the stadium with private funding instead of asking for a handout from taxpayers.

It wasn’t quite as bad as finding out Bill Cosby is a creep, but it was another in that seemingly endless march of stories that makes you throw up your hands and go “Is there anybody in a position of authority or celebrity who isn’t a scumbag?”

Maybe the Observer is trying to step up their game?

Highly doubtful.

In fact....given the Observer's recent track record that a somewhat experienced reporter would take a job there calls their capability into question (at least as far as I'm concerned).

We'll know soon!
