Kyle Allen just throws a more catchable ball

This is admittedly a garbage thread, but also a rhetorical device to smack the jesus out of any moron who's ever said the title out loud and not in jest. Besides being a bafflingly stupid statement from a technical standpoint, its general tenor as a knock against Cam now looks profoundly idiotic.

Kyle Allen has played admirably up to this point given the circumstances and I hope we continue to develop him as a part of the team. However, the true test of his mettle was always going to be a game where the entire team played like garbage and he was going to have to put the team on his back and find a way to win as Cam Newton has done countless times in his career, and we saw nothing today that suggested he's capable of that.

Now that we've crashed back down to earth, let's cross our fingers for Cam Newton and 5-3.

I don't want to sound like a Cam homer but I agree 100% with what you said. In a way I feel we needed this kind of display just to put things back in perspective. Fans and media have been blinded by this team's success to the point we actually thought we would be better off with Allen than Newton. Being 4-0 is a measurement of the team's ability not of Allen's.Now that he has been forced to pass look at him..

this whole situation sucks. im not cheering kyle allen to be bad. but the reality is, if you were kidding yourselves into thinking he's anything other than a viable backup/okay starter, then you were going to be massively disappointed in this turnout.

richard sherman sure thinks allen throws a catchable ball

to preemptively respond to the third tier trash can posters that will ooze out to complain, this post isn't a knock against kyle allen for having a bad game or throwing INTs like all quarterbacks do, but that this game (defense and special teams  playing poorly) offered him a chance to put the team on his back and carry it, and not only did he not but he totally melted down.

he has done an admirable job holding down the fort and

...we interrupt this post to report on bosa stealing kyle allen's jock

    • For Bryce’s obvious shortcomings (bad pun), there is upside to his game. This isn’t being a homer or apologists, but I like to consider myself fair in criticism.  He’s far tougher than I ever thought he’d be. I really thought homie would have been broken in half by now. I don’t know how he’s not, but he’s not.  He is prone to turning the ball over early in games which digs a huge hole the team is not built to come back from, but dude DOES come up with crucial first down in crucial situations. It’s NEVER pretty, but he just kind of has the shining. He gets bailed out LOTS, and the team still loses games because of him, but he’s a bit of an enigma. He’s a turnover machine that is clutch in big moments.  He’s a smart/elusive cat. He kind of has to be with his limitations. His audibles are almost always correct and he understands coverages. I don’t see him getting fooled too frequently. His turnovers are almost never the ‘damnit Jake/Cam!’ brand we have been accustomed to. They are ALWAYS due to his size/strength limitations.  Strip sacks that shouldn’t be. Picks that happened because he just don’t got that NFL arm. He is still prone to panicking and the wheels can and do fall off at a much higher rate than his peers.  The team is winning on the backs of the defense, running game and special teams… but they’re winning, and unbelievably 1 game behind Tampa. As long as this is happening and Bryce doesn’t go full meltdown, Dave is going to keep him in. He is not getting pulled.
    • This was a terrible podcast. A bunch of uninformed homers that had worse takes than the bottom 10% of the Huddle. I listened to a handful of podcasts this past offseason in search of new Panthers material since John Ellis doesn't do his pod anymore and The 4 Man Rush don't either. Immediately deleted it after the handful I listened to. Truly terrible.
    • The NFC South was so bad it sent a team with a losing record to the Playoffs that year. Wilks had players playing hard at the end but let’s not act like that was a good season. That season hurts even more now that we see in hindsight how good our QB situation was. We just didn’t know it.
