Panthers.com: Moore and Samuel silence the critics

Here we go with the myth wrs couldn’t develop while smith was here.

In reality those wrs we drafted either sucked or didn’t have it in them, hence why when they left here they didn’t prosper anywhere else.

smith was smith, but he didn’t play as big of a factor in wrs being trash here as most think

You keep saying this but I'm genuinely a little baffled why you feel this way. Both on the eye test and his stats, Samuel strikes me as a solid receiver with upside going forward. The eye test is of course highly subjective, but any examination of his stats in comparison to other receivers this year places him solidly middle of the pack as a starting WR, especially when you consider he's playing with a QB situation in flux.

I mean if you don't like him, you don't like him, sure, but I find the notion he's a total flop unworthy of being resigned hard to support on the facts.

lol, I agree 100%... That's kind of crazy to hear from people. Curtis Samuel has all-pro playmaking ability and we have seen it. Most people don't realize that Samuel has RB size as a WR and is blazing fast and quick. The kid is a homerun hitter, trust me. It's just a matter of having a QB (and play calls) that can consistently get him (and Moore involved). He and Moore have to be targeted enough to get into a rhythm and it just hasn't happened... YET. I highlight yet because I liked how many times the Panthers were throwing the ball vertically against the Titans. They didn't connect much, but was scary close. If they just stick with it Allen and those receivers will find that "touch"... mark my words. I really like what we have at the WR position, I think this team has the potential to be scary good on offense. Just think about that... Having an out of this world talent like CMC, then suddenly clicking with a young WR pair that has just been waiting to get their chance. It's coming guys, I'm telling you... (of course our OL plays a huge part in that).

He’s in his 3rd season. Hasn’t taken the leap like CMC, Moton and Armah whom all was drafted with him or the other receivers in his draft class. Samuel is not a true wr but what they used to call guys like Dexter McCluster, offensive weapon. That’s why Norv has to call these stupid trickery plays just so Samuel can get the ball in his hands. Bc he won’t as a receiver. I’m just a couch potato but at least I consistently catch a football with my hands on thanksgiving day after eating turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans casserole. Not catching a football with my fat overweight body.

I would caution everybody not to be a prisoner of any specific moment. Moore and Samuel have flashed. I was bullish about this receiving corps all camp long, but obviously you can’t execute your full complement of routes and concepts without your starting quarterback , coupled with inconsistency in pass protection.

They’ve held this thing together mighty well considering all of those factors. I still love DJ with the ball in his hands in the open field. I like what they did Sunday, throwing him a couple tunnel screens to get him going in the RAC game. They are using Samuel very effectively. Kyle missed a few throws to Curtis, namely in San Francisco. But he’s coming along, he’s getting a better feel for the intermediate stuff as a quarterback. He MUST work on his timing in terms of these 9 routes. It’s not that he lacks the arm strength to throw a 40y pass. He’s just not trusting it. You have to give your guys a chance, and that can’t happen if you’re throwing a ball 37 yards to a 40y target.

One of Jake Delhomme’s greatest attributes: Unleashing the ball early on the 9 route. This is a perfect example.

Curtis Samuel can outrun most corners in man press. Especially when there’s a cover one situation, there will be multiple times this season where 10 will have a beat on his man. Kyle is doing a better job reading these things, at least yesterday I saw a significant improvement. But there were at least two terrible underthrows on routes down the boundary. I seriously don’t think it’s an arm strength issue. I think it’s timing and trust. These receivers can scoot. Lay that thing out there and let them go chase it. If he can start to master that part of the game, this offense might take on a very new dynamic. Otherwise, you’ll have to keep playing small ball. Just like the fumbles, I really think this is correctable. Unless you are of the mindset that he’s an NFL quarterback who can’t throw it deep. If you’re at that level, you can throw 40 yard pass. Processing the information and delivering it with accuracy and timing is what separates the good ones from the career backups. He needs to be an absolute gym rat this week, and correct that. He’s going to have plenty of opportunities in Green Bay to find 10 down the field.

maybe they're just not real good.    couple bad balls by allen, but a couple that could have been caught.   then you have j wright who can't catch a cold right now, trying to basket catch a crossing route instead of having his hands in the correct position.   that's a catch te's and slot wr's make every game on other teams.    our wr's can get open but we don't have one that can make the catches i see with regularity watching other games.   its a pretty poor group overall.

Young receivers and young QB. They're showing improvement. There's still a long way to their ceilings and we're going to be looking good down the road.

Kyle's still the best 23 year old QB playing in the league right now. He's going to keep improving, the game hasn't started slowing down for him yet.

The fact that they could up their game and try harder only proved Smith's point.

But they told me he’s a horrible analyst?

You know what, I’m just going to give 89 the benefit of the doubt. Generally speaking, in every walk of life, that’s a very good idea when it comes to 89.

maybe they just didn't play the #1 defense (and #1 pass defense) in the NFL this past week.....and maybe 89's comments overly focused on a game where  they weren't suppose to have a lot of success regardless of how good they were.
