If Ian Rappaport is credible....

How far up in the draft could one move with three second round picks in the same year?

I'd say at least potentially high enough to draft a good quarterback prospect.

Granted, we don't know how high in the draft we're going to finish on our own yet.

It's quite possible we might not have to trade up as much as we think.

I see it happening for a 2nd and potentially another player.

One thing people need to realize is that he might be worth a 1st in your heart, but there are roughly 4 1st round caliber QB's in the upcoming draft and Cam is significantly older with way more mileage than them. He hasn't been healthy in 4 years, and will need to be extended after the trade. Would you trade a 1st rounder for that kind of uncertainty?

I don't know... a former MVP with a very reasonable salary is still attractive.  And a starting level QB is almost always worth a 1st rounder+.   Cam is still only going to be 31.  I know he's got some mileage, but he's not ancient.

That being said, I truly don't know.  Factoring in an extension will be the toughest thing to me.  There are still a lot of teams with a lot of cap to spend.  If you're the Colts (and you paid $10M for Funchess), what would you give for a former MVP on an otherwise really good team when you swimming in cap space.

I just want to make sure the team gets good compensation for Cam if it goes that route (and unfortunately all signs point to that).

If we are going into next year with Allen or another non-Cam veteran, we need to surround that guy with as much talent as possible b/c we're not going to have a young generational talent that can single-handedly will us to victory.

I don't think you can bank on that price though.

Newton's gonna want some kind of extension. The Panthers refusal to give him is said to be one of the big sticking points right now.

I don't see him getting the kind of mega contract that some others have gotten recently, but he's gonna want something.

I have come to accept that Newton is going to be gone and that era is over. Tepper will have to clean house and start over. Really a shame the decline after the 2015 season. We all at high Hope's.....WTF happened.

If Tepper gets the Soccer team are there enough hour in the day, energy, money etc. to do that and rebuild the Panthers with new GM/Head Coach etc.?

FINE, we'll take a starting DT and a third rounder.

According to him, Newton will be traded to the Bears in the off season ( says that's where Newton wants to go.)

It's obviously time to do what should be done and rebuilt this team from the bottom up. Maybe Allen will be the guy, maybe not.

Regardless of who is the QB, this team needs a new direction. Another season of this meandering,  rudderless mess is not going to cut it.

They have CMC and a few players besides him that are worth keeping. Luke is not adjusting to this defense and seems lost at times. RR screwed the pooch with this 'new scheme' and has turned what was once a decent defense into a P.O.S that is full of holes.

Come on now... We are 5-4 and right in the thick of things. This was a tough game, and we all KNEW it would be but lets all take a collective deep breath. Honestly, we are an OL protection and QB/WR connection away from being a top 5 or 6 team in the league, no BS. Kyle Allen is very close to having a consistent connection with Moore and Samuel, and really, with CMC that's all this offense needs to be one of the best in the NFL. Moore had over 100 yards again this week, that's a start. Samuel is a playmaker and we all know it, and so does Allen. Guys.... We lost today to a very good team, maybe a SB contender in a hallowed place under ideal "home field" conditions for them following a humiliating loss. If our defense can play up to the potential that a championship defense can play then we are still in it. If Trent Dilfer can win a Super Bowl, then lets face it, so can Kyle Allen. We all saw how Eli won a couple of super Owls. I don't think Allen could do worse honestly based on the sample size. We have CMC who is lethal and all defenses have to account for him at all times, that SHOULD open up a lot for our passing game. I think that is what our coaching staff is doing (yes, maybe I'm giving them way too much credit). Allen needed time to build rapport and gel with our young WR core and I think our coaches developed a game by game plan to slowly bring him along. These last two games I have really seen that... Moore has went over 100 yards the last two games and Samuel has been targeted more and we know his playmaking ability. Lets let this thing play out.... Tell me this: Would it not be a great story? Some UDFA comes in after your veteran star goes down with injury. He comes in, shows promise, makes mistakes, then slowly/steadily shows improvement, poise and leadership week to week. Then, despite those mistakes, uses them to make himself better, then suddenly turns potential into kinetic. The thing is... This IS NOT hyperbole, I'm watching this kid every week and I am seeing nothing that is telling me that he just sucks, quite the opposite. I think the biggest X factor for the Panthers is the defense overall and obviously the O-line. If the coaching staff can get those areas addressed and the team can play inspired, I truly feel like this team has the players and potential to go on a run. Yes, we lost to the Packers today, but MOST teams do this time of year, the Panthers played well all things considered. It's all about connection, can these guys connect and finish strong... we'll see.

If Bears are willing to part with their 1st, I think it is the right move, even as someone who wants Cam here.

We can't just give him away, though.

BTW- where is the link for that? I've not seen anything on that, and to my knowledge Cam has kept his mouth shut

I'm not sure if the Bears HAVE a 1st, but I'd take it for Cam.  It'll be a high draft pick.

I really do love Cam and wish him the best, but at this point, in a PERFECT world, Cam has three years left in the tank.  I'd rather get a top 10 pick and shed the risk. I don't know if Kyle Allen is the answer, but I do know we would be winners in that trade scenario regardless.

Well, playing a town like Chicago would go a long ways toward Cam advancing his brand.

if Ian is reporting it, then he’s hearing it and there’s really only 1 person that speaks for Cam...

just be happy we have Tepper.  A guy that will be willing to play chicken more than most.  I bet he can get what he wants out of this.

Who's he hearing it from?

the Bears or Chargers are the two places i had expected him to end up

Bears don't have a 1, but I'm guessing that's not the price of Cam either way....I fully expect a 2 to be the number.  Chargers are allergic to spending money, and I would assume that Cam won't agree to a cut rate contract from Spanos...but they do need some star power in LA to sell those seats.  So maybe Spanos is willing to gamble on the contract and shoulder to see if they can garner some support in LA?

End of the day, if Cam is healthy and doesn't demand a new deal next season, I would prefer him to stay in CAR....I do think that Cam has likely grown sour on the ORG at this point though.
