Go back to 4-3

Tired of seeing teams run it down this team’s throats and Luke being a shell of himself.  Put them back to what they used to do best and stop the run.  At least do it on 1st downs, this isn’t working.

We do not have enough DEs or LBs for 4-3.  Most of our 4-3 DEs are 250lbs...  those are 3-4LBs.  That’s what happens when you transition a D from 4-3 to 3-4.  Takes longer than a year.

Addison and Wes Horton have played 4-3 DE. I think a big reason they brought Horton back was to re-implement some 4-3 looks to help the run defense. Bruce Irvin is a hybrid player who could play both on the line and as a standup linebacker. But you’re right the LB depth isn’t there for a true 4-3.

At the very least they could throw Kyle Love and Dontari Poe in the middle, and Gerald McCoy and Vernon Butler on the edges to all out stop the run. Use one pass rusher LB like Burns or Irvin, and then of course Luke and Shaq. Haven’t seen a look quite like this yet. Would be useful when they are losing and need to stop the run.

Addison is a rusher and Horton has been unemployed for a long time.  I would not consider them great run stoppers.

Get a NT and play 3-4. The 4-3 we play is super weak and another Rivera boondoggle, like the buffalo nickle. Shaq is fast but not speedy Wr fast. Our current setup is made to fail against the run. The theory is ok but the execution is not that good.

I think we need to stay the course with the 3-4.  This is year one, and it's done what we wanted it to, which is create pressure on the passer.  We just need to button up the run defense.  Kuechly is not underperforming because of the scheme.  He's getting played by the offense.  He's falling for every trick they pull.  He needs to adjust his game, plain and simple.

    • Taking only players from the sheet that are realistically available in or after the listed round, I’d like… 1st: DT Caleb Banks (Styles not realistic) 2nd: LB Jacob Rodriguez 3rd: OT Best available from Bowry, Barber, and Casey 4th: CB Daylen Everette 5th: S Jalen Huskey 6th: RB Adam Randall 7th: IOL Best available from Lemieux, Dawkins, Leausa, and Brose   I know nothing about some of the players listed, but it seems like that would be the best way it could fall for now. I’m sure the list of who we meet will change a ton, and there will also be players we don’t meet with to keep quiet. I’d love to pick up Randall in the late rounds.
    • Not what I said. They know within the building why we aren't utilizing TEs more. If the rumors were true that we were seriously pursuing a couple of decent receiving TEs that strongly points toward a lack of quality receiving TEs currently on the roster. Does that mean we consider drafting one at 19? I don't know, but it wouldn't shock me and if we did there's only one guy it would be. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see TE drafting somewhere in the first three rounds.
    • Yeah, I don’t know. Tepper was behind the Bryce selection. Behind firings and hiring over his lack of development.  He doesn’t have to literally tell them their hands are tied for them to know this. It is in the air constantly. The Canales Bryce play calling was even portrayed by more than one person as Canales failing Bryce, instead of Bryce being responsible for his own performance (except when he does well, then it is all him). Now they have an extra coach in, to help the new OC get results from this QB.  The atmosphere is not welcoming to prototypical young QBs that have talent. You get Jake Plummer types or old vets. I think we are stuck.
