LANDOVER, Md. -- Former Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil, who came out of retirement at the start of training camp to galvanize the New York Jets' offensive line, was placed on season-ending injured reserve on Saturday.

Kalil, 34, injured his knee in the Week 8 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and missed two games. He returned to practice this week, but the comeback attempt was aborted after one day.

Peppers, Thomas Davis, Cam, Luke and Olsen are locks. Stewart a maybe. I guess Kalil would be next on the maybe list.

It's a tough call. Kalil was a better center than Gross was a LT but the LT position is so much more vital and hard to fill. Both are clearly the best we've ever had at their perspective positions.

Yeah, and then there's that. I think Kalil is worthy. 5x Pro Bowler, 2x 1st team All-Pro, 1x 2nd team All-Pro.

Gross in comparison was a 3x Pro Bowler and 1x 1st team All-Pro.
