Who had a more successful 9 years with the Panthers: John Fox or Ron Rivera?

Except for the 2010 season their records have really mirrored each other.  After 8 seasons John was 76-60 counting playoffs and Ron was 74-60-1 counting playoffs.

that's what next season is for too. it's also an even year and shaping up to be the same thing. In all honesty, i'd let him and cam finish their contracts but Hurney needs to go ASAP. And we need to ditch the 3-4. For some reason i don't think this was Ron's idea. He never changes poo. I think it was Hurney and/or Tepper who wanted the swap.

That's true, but Fox would have made more than one Super Bowl if he had Cam. That 2008 team was loaded and Jake was really the only weak point.

I don't agree with this. The 2008 team's defense was awful in the few games of the season, and even if Jake doesn't melt down, Fox's refusal to not have Gamble shadow Larry Fitzgerald would still have likely cost us the game.

One other thing to keep in mind when you think about how the two of them did: John Fox did this with Jake Delhomme as his QB for the equivalent of about 6 of those 9 seasons and also had Rodney Peete, Chris Weinke, Jimmy Clausen, David Carr, Matt Moore, and Vinny Testaverde thrown in the mix too. Up until this year, Ron Rivera has been mediocre despite having an MVP at QB.

Jake was the only one who Fox won with - all of those other guys you mentioned didn't even get them close to the playoffs. Fox also couldn't win the big one with Peyton Manning when he set just about every offensive single season record in Denver, what makes you think he would have done any different with Cam?

Isn't it amazing how often this comes up as a positive for him? Not that I'm doubting it or saying you're wrong for listing it, I'm sure Ron is a super nice guy. But nice, well-liked guys get fired for poor job performance everyday in this country from minimum wage jobs all the way to the very top. How nice someone is shouldn't be a factor in deciding who your NFL head coach is.

It shouldn’t be the main factor, but how well a team likes and responds to your coaching absolutely matters.

Rivera is a mediocre HC but the team usually competes hard even when we are bad.

Jake took a lot of crap from fans on message boards, but he was a gutsy son of a bitch in the playoffs. I know the Seattle and Arizona games were catastrophes, but the Seattle game: they triple covered Steve Smith and they had no running backs. Arizona game was just a total meltdown, and the defense had a hand in that too.

But he had a special intuition in big moments. It’s why he still is the franchise’s all-time leader in fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives. Four road playoff wins in two years. Made big, clutch throws in each of those wins. Tossed three touchdowns to three different WR and no picks against Bill Belichick’s patriots in SB38.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
