You might say he's a little displeased about the PI call reversal yesterday.

NFL replay protocol for pass interference is an embarrassment

Twelve weeks into the 100th season of NFL football, this much has become clear and obvious: The league’s new replay rule involving pass interference is a complete and utter debacle.

Amazingly, improbably, mindbogglingly, the NFL has somehow taken a bad situation and made it worse.

The league’s flawed new replay protocol for pass interference has become a weekly source of frustration for everyone involved: players, coaches, fans, media. No one knows what to expect from week to week, game to game, even play to play. With each passing week comes a new, mystifying decision or egregious gaffe.

And if something isn’t done to rectify the situation, the league is going to have a potentially bigger P.R. mess on its hands than it did last season after the NOLA No-Call.

The latest example occurred Sunday in the New Orleans Saints’ 34-31 victory against the Carolina Panthers, an exciting, hard-fought game between two division rivals that was marred by several questionable calls and questionable replay challenges.

Saints head coach Sean Payton and Panthers head coach Ron Rivera each challenged a pass interference call and non-call during the game. Payton’s challenge was denied; Rivera’s was upheld.

Both those challenges had the correct outcome. Cook clearly extended his arm on the defender, that’s the definition of OPI. The other one was soft and wasn’t expected to be overturned based on other challenges so far this year but it was also clearly a PI on the defender, he obviously grabbed him with the ball in the air, even Romo admitted that and he was clearly rooting for the Aints to blow us out.

If not for their psychotic head coach, there would’ve been no challenge opportunity in the first place for Rivera. So, maybe next time, don’t spend your entire off-season bitching and moaning for something that ends up biting you in the ass.

Was he? I really didn't get that feeling at all. I thought he was very even-handed. I mean, he spent the entire second quarter blowing Kyle Allen, and making fun of Sean Payton for being a replacement player.

I actually thought Romo was one of the better color commentator's I've heard for a Panthers broadcast all year.
