I'm convinced that Charlotte sports teams avoid it on some 4th grader masculinity BS. Only way I can explain the Hornets having a dozen City Edition jerseys and no "Queen City" to be found.

Shame because QCFC is awesome.

I think the problem with Queen City F.C. is Cincinnati.  If they weren't also in MLS, then it might be a consideration, but with them having a team also, it's just too confusing and might cause a stir.  I could definitely see us having some kind of "Queen City" rivalry with Cincinnati, though.

As for names, I don't mind either Charlotte F.C. or Charlotte Town F.C.  There's a precedent for the latter, because Charlotte was originally known as Charlotte Town.  I doubt that would happen because the powers that be might have a complex over using "town" in the name, but it would be a throwback name.

Charlotte Fortune is awful.  Charlotte Monarchs isn't much better.  As someone else said, I'd rather see Royal Charlotte F.C. than that - or, better yet, Charlotte Royals F.C. if they can snag that name from the rugby club that uses it.

I don't actually know what an FC is.

Is it short for Football Club?

No idea but thatd be my guess.  But there are a ton of FC's already in the MLS.

United is another common soccer name.  And itd fot right in with what Tepper is trying to push.

Yes, FC stands for Football Club. It's a thing that many teams in Europe do (even in the same leagues) and a lot of MLS teams are just carrying on the tradition. There can also be multiple "United" teams. D.C. and Atlanta both have the word in the name. According to this article, it was more common when two teams merged into one.

Which teams are examples or not being a merger?

off the top of my head, man U, west ham, and leeds are basically teams that said "hey that's a cool name let's use it brah". newcastle are an actual "united". sheff U are complicated because they weren't formed from a merger, but named themselves for a cricket club that was

there are definitely more examples as well

Oh greattttt here comes the soccer pansies to defend their sport. Soccer is for three types of people: uncircumcised euros, little kids, and terrorists.

maybe if your dad reads this post, he's finally going to love you even though you never had the makings of a varsity football player

(just kidding, you're getting the belt again)

I’m 39 years old. I’ve never cared about soccer. I’ll probably never care about soccer. I wish everybody all the best.

Win a Super Bowl

Not my thing, but neither is basketball, honestly.

I wish the best to the folks who are fans of it, though. I'm sure this is all pretty exciting, like it was for us when the Panthers were being created.

(still remember how that felt)

Like I said, I wish them all the best. I’m just never going to really care about it. I have a one track mind. I hope everybody has a fun time and they win lots of games.

I tried to catch on to it back around the first US World Cup run but ultimately I just couldn't.

It's one of many sports I'll probably make note of in the back of my mind.
