Good Read: Draftnetworks Joe Marino. How we got here and how to fix it.

It's a nice article, but offers little in terms of "fixing" the Panthers. They'd have to be a lot more radical in their moves to do that. Re-sign Tre Boston? Uhhh, no thanks. Draft a 2nd day QB? Been there; done that. Draft a project OT?

The Panthers need major surgery. The article is offering a band-aid and a cup of hot chocolate.

“After a decade of enjoying stalwart Jordan Gross at left tackle, the Panthers struggled mightily to replace him. They have featured a different primary starter at the position every season since 2013. In the 95 games since Gross retired, Carolina has seen 10 different players at left tackle. Four different players this season alone have manned the position.”

That about sums it up.

You do realize its all a puzzle

For the price tag and fitting it in.  Your not going to find a upgrade over him while fixing the other more glaring holes.

The article is titled "Here's how to fix it" and then goes on to describe how to slightly improve things, not fix them. Maybe it should have been titled "A Roadmap for Improvement".

Don't get your panties in a wad.

OL has been hot garbage for a while, especially at OT sans Gross.  Nice write up for the casual fan or fans of other teams unfamiliar with us, but not one nugget of information in that article enlightened me.  Crap, it's mostly what I've been pounding the table about all season.

That was a great draft they mocked for us. Heavily invested in the trenches plus added a high level potential QB(finally). I think taking a flyer on DJ might not be a bad idea for a low investment price. He's definitely a player that has a long, long injury history, so that is a big red flag.

I think we definitely need to make a marked improvement at LT this offseason. I am in favor of getting a guy like Whitworth(FA and his old ass is still playing at a high level). If we can eek out two seasons of solid LT play, perhaps we can stabilize that whole offensive line and let Little potentially develop or buy us time to find a new prospect there.

I was wanting Whitworth when he hit the FA market last time, but people were saying he was asking too much money for a 34 or 35 year-old OT.  Imagine Cams health if we would have signed Whitworth a few years ago?

You and me both, brother. And then he ended up signing a less expensive deal than He Who Shall Not Be Named(IMO the best reason to fire Gettleman).

He is a free agent this offseason and has stated he wants to return in 2020. I suspect he will just stick with the Rams, however.

    • I dont think that is worst case at all.  Worst case is Bryce is exactly like he was the last ten games and not really showing anything, making a decision hard.  If we suck this year there are like 5 potential franchise guys that should be coming out this year.
    • Bryce's play after coming back from his benching gives me a glimmer of hope but it's wild that a lot of Panthers fans are acting like he has arrived as a franchise QB because he put up some mediocre stats and basically simply just finally didn't look like a guy who flat out did not belong on an NFL field.  I'm anxious to see what he looks like this year and I'm hoping for continued growth but I still haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that he's capable of being a high level starter. Hoping he proves me wrong but honestly the worst case scenario would be that he comes out this year and plays like he did late last year. That's purgatory QB level. The type of guy who organizations get led to believe might be "good enough" but you're not competing for SBs with that level of QB play. I want Bryce to boom or bust this year. Go out there and prove me wrong and look like THAT DUDE or just revert back to looking like he doesn't belong. Don't leave me in purgatory. Let's get an answer to this question one way or the other.
    • Absolute worst case scenario for us is we suck, ignore the 5th year option, and draft a new QB onto a team that is pretty well built.  That being said, I think Bryce is turning a corner this year.
