Panthers fans are going to hate David Tepper very soon

Guys, guys, guys, all this talk of a deal with the devil is a little over the top don’t you think? No one is gonna believe that Marty Hurney literally made a deal with devil to get to where he is.

Especially when there’s a much more believable hypothesis that explains everything:

Hurney is a Jedi.

”These aren’t the results you’re looking for. You don’t need another GM. I can go about my job.”

It's funny how the Panthers have all these football people around when they could have saved money and just read some threads on a message board. :eyeroll:

For the trolls - you have no idea how a front office works. If you think Hurney or any other GM sits in his office and decides BY HIMSELF that he is going to draft players A, B and C, maybe you should get off Madden for a little while, go outside and grab some fresh air.

Unless you are Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder, most of the decision is going to be a collaboration between the GM, head coach, scouts, etc. The sins of the past aren't exclusive property of Marty Hurney, although he shares in the failures that have come the Panther's way. I'd like to also distribute several lumps of coal to Rivera and the scouting staff who made recommendations on many of the second day picks. But before some of you run too far and run the risk of looking like idiots (oops, too late), maybe we should let more than a day pass since the last day of the regular season before we decide the sky is falling.

It ain't.

Take a breath.

And the rest of us should be happy that the trolls are not, hopefully, in positions in need of thoughtful decison-making.

lets not forget what Tepper is building down in FT Mill....millions out of pocket for a best in class training facility, will be the best in the league

and although i could care less about soccer, he is putting out another $200m for that

the guy is all in on Charlotte & he hates losing...he is gonna do things that we dont like, but be assured, he wants to win....big time

change is different...he may make some mistakes...but he is gonna do what he thinks will make us great, year after year...which we have never been

I promise you that top of the line training facility only to have guys like Grier, Clausen, Hogan, Fua, McClain, Marshall, Gaulden, etc to practice on wont help this franchise win any games.

Does anyone else wonder where we would be if Ben Navarro bought the team instead?

Yeah I wonder how long he would have kept the team in Charlotte before chasing a payday.

Tepper has made more money than God and is actually interested in investing in Charlotte and the surrounding area.  He is the best thing to happen to the business community and the Carolina Panthers in 25 years.

And I don't care that Navarro lives in Charleston. He's from the Northeast and would have had no qualms in moving the team IMO

Tepper loves football and the NFL and was unanimously liked and supported by all the other owners.

That means a lot more to me than a hypothetical scenario involving someone with no prior ties to this area or the NFL.

Tepper has made his commitment to Charlotte and the Carolinas clear already. That is worth a lot more long term than being whiny about him keeping this person or not signing that person this very moment when literally no one knows how things will play out.

Some owners buy NFL teams to turn a profit alone and will sell out cities to get there. Just look at Kroenke and Spanos. Even Mark Davis. Tepper has already made multiple tangible actions (new practice bubble, new HQ planned, buying a MLS team that show his commitment to the area.

Tepper hasn't even had the team 2 years and people are whining bc he's not doing everything they want this very minute.

I seriously am trying to understand that perspective but I can't in any rational way. We went from having one of the worst owners in the NFL to one of the best and people are still looking for reasons to complain.  It doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Oh I do everyday

Seriously for what conceivable reason? I truly would like to understand because on its face that seems like one or the more asinine things I have heard in some time.

Maybe you have a good reason, maybe you are trolling, I truly dont know.

Seriously if there is an ounce of legitimacy to your idea I would like to know bc nothing Tepper has done in 2 years has given me even the slightest pause to entertain some other hypothetical scenario involving a one time potential owner i (and i would assume almost everyone else) knows next to nothing about.

I literally googled Navarro just now bc he was in consideration for such a short amount of time I really couldn't remember anything about him. He was never from what I remember a serious candidate from the league's perspective.

Is there something we missed about him? Or has Tepper seriously done anything that would provoke you to waste mental energy on this on a daily basis?

I'm personally wasting more mental energy right now than I ever thought I would in trying to under something that seems so illogical.

Please do explain though. I would like to understand if you're being serious

go ahead and do it then big shot. also post the former patriot GM that was fired and never even contacted by another team for another position only to eventually sit around for a few years and ultimately be rehired by his former pathetic franchise.

i'll wait

Well Bill Belichick has been the GM of the Pats since 2000. Hurney started with the Panthers in 1999 and was promoted to GM in 2002. He was fired in 2012 and returned in 2017.

From 2000 to 2017 the Patriots have drafted 63 pro bowlers and 16 ap all pros, 79 combined, tied for first in the NFL. In that same time span the Panthers have drafted 49 pro bowlers and 18 ap all pros, 67 combined, placing them in fourth. The 18 all pros is the most in the NFL. 85% of those players were drafted by Marty Hurney.

Im not a huge fan of Hurney but we could do much, much worse. I’m will to see what he can accomplish now that he is not being handicapped by Ron Rivera.
