Cam/Trubisky trade?

I see where LG is going with this. It's not that Trubisky > Cam, it's that if Cam is not our QB moving forward, then take a gamble on Trubisky. We would need a QB under center and why not see if Brady/Rhule can resurrect his career at 25 years old and maybe have the same effect as he did with Burrow. Plus, his contract is perfect with 1 year remaining on a rookie deal (+1 year potential extension in '21 if we want).

It's not like it prohibits us from drafting a QB in 2020.

Yes. This.

A player for player swap would be horrible.

We trade for Trubisky.  Taking a gamble on him, hoping we can turn him into a legit QB.  And all we had to do was trade away a legit QB?

Its like the Dolphins trading away Fitzpatrick to the Steelers for a 1st rounder.  They moved a guy they just got in the 1st round.  Who is a 1st round quality guy.  For a pick that they hope they can draft someone that is a first round quality.

The goal in a Cam/Trubisky trade would be to hopefully get a QB that can play as well as Cam did?  So we give up Cam o that gambit.

Any trade would have to have quality pick(s) attached to be worth it.

I don't think it would be a straight up trade. They'd have to sweeten the pot. Maybe Trubisky and a 2nd for Cam.

Keep in mind, I'm only suggesting this working under the assumption that the decision has already been made to definitively move on from Cam no matter what, which may or may not be an accurate assumption. I hope it's not.

but why get the pick watered down by us getting Mitch?

While we're all poo posting terrible ideas for the future...

I wouldn't be shocked if something like this went down. It seems like we're hell-bent on going the full rebuild route and that's what Rhule has done in both of his college stops. From a physical tools perspective, Trubisky has everything Joe Brady should want in a QB to bring his offense to the NFL. So should Cam, but all the tea leaves seem to point toward the Panthers moving on from Cam. There's probably gonna be a lot of talk about the Panthers moving up to #1 to get Joe Burrow but the cost would probably be astronomical and the roster has a ton of holes that would have to go unaddressed for that to happen.

Meanwhile, in Chicago Nagy's seat has to be one of the warmest in the NFL going into next season. He was supposed to bring a KC style offense to Chicago and it's an understatement to say that hasn't quite worked out. Trubisky is getting a lot of the blame for that but in the games I've watched I don't think that's necessarily a completely fair assessment. If Nagy thinks Cam is the best bet to save his job then I'm sure he'd be all for getting him. Chicago as an overall team certainly seems a lot closer to compete for a SB than the Panthers and if they think Cam can get them over that hump I could absolutely see some sort of Cam for Trubisky trade going down. If Trubisky doesn't work out for the Panthers, there's a very good chance we'll be high in next year's draft and then we can look at options like Lawrence and Fields. In terms of cap hit, we'd save close to $10M.

I'm a huge Cam fan and I want to stick with Cam, but if you're moving on from Cam this is a move that could potentially make sense for both parties. The Bears make a hail mary effort to capitalize on a potential SB window while the Panthers get to kick the tires on a young QB who has similar physical tools to Joe Burrow with no long-term commitment.

Flame away.

I had a similar idea a couple of months ago, IF they had to trade Cam. Sound reasoning even if I had to throw up in my mouth a little.

Who is this "you guys"? I don't want to part ways with Cam. I think there's a decent chance it would prove to be a big mistake. But, it's starting to seem it's a foregone conclusion that we will be.

The "common theme" here on the huddle seems to be that if we trade away all of our assets and suck for 2 years we are automatically guaranteed to find success and our quarterback of the future within the next 2 seasons. Is it impossible to do? No of course not but we still have Cam Newton at 31 years old. We all know the type of player Cam Newton is capable of being. I'm sure he knows what would be at stake this season and you know how much Cam Newton loves the city of Charlotte and the game of Football. Combine that competitive edge, along with the MASSIVE chip on his shoulder, with young innovative coaching, and an infusion of talent along our Offensive and Defensive Lines sounds like a much better way to go about rebuilding this team rather than sabotaging it's future by cutting ties with Cam. Now of course that would mean Cam would have to be healthy, right? Well let's say he gets injured, we are going to suck anyways so it's a wash. What would we do with Cam's $18 million in cap space we'd free up this year? Nothing really. Who would we sign in free agency? What kind of draft capitol would Cam Newton get us? Not much. And for damn sure nothing worth his value to this organization. It just is not worth parting ways with him without seeing what he can do with this staff. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Wouldn’t be the worst idea. A change in scenery might help Mitch. You get too see if he can develop in our system while saving a lot from Cam’s cap hit. If he fails we pick up our guy in the next draft. If he looks legit (like Tannehill did with a new team this year) we don’t have to worry about a QB. Plus we can probably squeeze a draft pick with Mitch for Cam to give us more draft capital. You would save around $10 million to be used on either line or secondary...  Call me crazy but I think Josh Rosen is worth looking at also.  Joe Brady might be able too make him look good with his arm talent.

I completely agree with you which is why I'm hoping that all these hot rumors flying suggesting that it's a foregone conclusion that we move on from Cam are wildly inaccurate.
