Draft: Tight Ends (there are some good ones)

We need one and this draft has some super interesting ones:

Brycen Hopkins (love, love, love)

Cole Kmet

Other notables:

https://thedraftnetwork.com/prospect-rankings (sort by position)

Hunter Bryant

Thaddeus Moss

Jared Pinkney (another one I'm a big fan of)

Overall, I see at least 5 legit TE prospects in this class, 2 in particular with instant plug and start ability both as blockers and receivers.

Would not be opposed RD2-4.

Only if they can also play LT in the first 3 rounds

Given who's on the roster, C, OG, TE, LT, DT, DE, LB, S, CB are all huge needs.   Wills, Wirfs, or Thomas are obvious targets R1 but I don't want to waste another 2-6 on a OT when we just used 2 picks on tackles on it last draft.  Not to mention what we do with a bunch of super young and promising 3-4 EDGE talent.  Honestly, this draft has become a new strategy:

Grab the best talent available minus RB and OLB.  This is the most holes I've seen since Tremors.

“Cold my ass! It’s dead! We killed it! Fuuuuuuug You!”

This btw is what opposing pass rushers will be saying over Cam’s corpse if we don’t fix the oline Yesterfuggingday.

If we would have taken a top-end TE in one of the past 3 drafts like I've been wanting, this wouldn't be an issue.  Alas, the need for a TE has been overtaken by other pressing matters.  I'm thinking 4th round at the earliest, possibly 3rd if a steal is available.  Hopefully by then we will have selected an OL and/or DL and can afford our first luxury pick of the draft.

It's still early, but this wouldn't be a very stong TE class.  The 2018 class where I was pounding the table for a TE in the first 3 rounds, was solid year.  We got Ian Thomas in the 4th, but I still think we need a compliment or even an slight upgrade.  I was a huge Dallas Goedert fan, but the Eagles grabbed him a few picks before us.  I doubt we would have taken him if he would have lasted anyway.   Why? One word, Hurney.

Loved that movie. Can't remember the second one (I think I liked it), but anything after that was poo.

I would like to see what Thomas has with a coaching staff that want stash him for 5 years.

Thomas needs a running mate. I'm nearly certain that Olsen is just waiting to see Cam's fate.  Even if Greg is here one more year (and it looking less likely) we still need more depth.  I'm so over Manhertz.

Thomas and Samuel need to take turns on Samuel's JUGS machine!

    • Yea when teams see a gun charge they rightly pause but this seems like a big misunderstanding.
    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
