In this thread, argue why the pick SHOULDN'T be a lineman.

Paradis was a huge issue with the oline last year.  We can upgrade center in round 2. If brown is gone I'm fine with jeudy at 7. Get a dynamic player this year and suck then get free agents to upgrade lines and draft Lawrence or fields next year.

QB if Cam is gone or WR as far as I'm concerned.

I could be swayed into drafting a defensive lineman. But OL in the top 10 the last several years has simply not been pretty for most teams. The current consensus on the Greg Little pick doesn't exactly help.

Your best bet on a known commodity in an OL is through FA.

Sure, it will take some money, but IMHO an OL pick at 7 is a huge risk.

We have Tackles prospects in Little, Moton, and Daley. If you don't vet someone as a guaranteed starter day 1 at LT in the draft, then you pay in FA to get one.

We mainly need interior linemen, which can also be had in FA at a more solid return than an early draft pick.

I currently expect pick #7 to be a DL or a WR like Jeudy, with us picking up our OL in FA.

All that said, we may have to give up on re-signing Bradberry if we go the FA route for OL. I'm warming to that, with us getting cheaper CB options in the draft/FA.

Spend the money to protect Cam. Don't roll the dice anymore.

I can Easily see it being an interior D Lineman or OT. I don’t know if Kinlaw could go at 7 but Brown, Wirfs, Thomas are very likely possibilities.

However! I like identifying who at their most boom scenario has the greatest value to a team.

SF built from the DL out which I quite like with certain guys like Armstead paying off dividends. The Redskins, AZ, SD, MIA and a few others have been constantly taking OLs and not going anywhere for some time. Even KC to a certain extent until they found Mahomes.

So yeah, you look to QB and the guys who are star/skill players that can take your team to the next level.  The means and methods of what comes first (line or star) shouldn’t matter if you want to get the specific guys you want to lead a team. Sometimes it can also be a defensive leader who’s a field general. The question is if Tua, Herbert, Simmons, Jeudy, Lamb, etc. fit that mold. I’m unsure but do love the receivers in this draft. Insane talent so a typical first rounder could be staring at us round 2.

I can see a scenario where we pick 2 OL in this draft but people here obvi won’t be happy because they won’t be in round one or two.

Moton is no longer a prospect. He's a good RT going into the last year of his contract. Maybe Little and Daley develop into something, maybe not. If there's anything the Panthers should've learned over the past decade it's that you can never have too many quality OL.

And that's not even talking about the fact that "lineman" could also be referring to a DL - another massive area of need.

Honestly, our NEEDS are pretty simple. If Cam is back, it's DL and OL. If Cam is gone, it's QB, DL, and OL. Everything else is a want IMO.

When the shelves are as bare as they are in Carolina, any pick of CB, QB, OL, DL or LB, will probably be a great need.  Olineman and WR's are a pretty deep group this year, so maybe we pick something else at 7 and then use FA and lower picks on other guys

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
