The case for Okuda at CB

Let's talk about normal D lines given any scheme won't work with broken down injured D lines. I think that shutdown corners help the d line more than a d line helps the secondary if 4 receivers come open immediately.  No one can generate pressure on the D line if the quarterback is getting the ball out in under 3 seconds all day unless you cover then off the line and make the quarterback hold the ball instead of playing pick and catch with multiple open guys.

I've been saying this for awhile.  What's the average sack take? 3.5 seconds?  Good QBs can get the ball out in that time.

You can have 3 Aaron Donalds on your line and it won't matter if your secondary is so bad that you have to play really soft.

Its not that one (DL or CB)is more important than the other, they work together.  The secondary has to be good enough to allow the DL to do their job.

Also I don't understand why people factor in Bradberry when talking about Okuda.  Even if Bradberry is resigned, I think we need more than 1 CB at a time.

I've actually been warming to the idea of Okudah at #7. The other positions can be found later in the draft, if need be, but there's a pretty huge drop off on corners, so I wouldn't be mad at the pick at all.

OT/DT/CB/LB - any one of these would be good at our spot, since one of them is bound to be elite, and it just depends on who falls to us on draft day. About the only spot that would truly make me rage is WR, simply because it's such a deep WR class this year, and not as much of a drop off from top tier to the next best.

I'll say this. Okudah is a clear difference maker. If he's available at 7, then the Panthers should seriously consider taking him.

But I'm also of the mind that it would be a golden opportunity to trade back and collect more picks.

It will be interesting to see what this staff values. My hope is they aren't so reliant on individual talent, but implement a scheme that can take advantage of the talent the players have collectively. That's something Rivera could never do.

We can’t fix the team with the 7th pick but I don’t think we’d be mad at any of the choices. Okudah, Brown, Thomas, Wirfs, jeudy, lamb, Simmons are all players I’d be satisfied with.

I agree with this.. Give me a all world defensive player or a Olinemen and I'm happy.

Don't be surprised if the new regime axes Cam and trades up for Herbert.

Or drafts an OT with Pick 7 and gets Jordan Love or Jacon Eason in the 2nd.

I hate Jacob Eason.. Love maybe but Eason has Ryan Mallet, Brock Osweiler,  and Paxton Lynch written all over him..

If the pick isn't in the trenches, then we aren't rebuilding sh!t.

I'm sorry if you have a chance at a Jalen Ramsey type CB or a Brian Urlacher like defender you take them if they rank higher than the trench player..

Not when your QB keeps getting killed AND you have a historically bad run defense.

    • I'm happy with TMac, but Tyler Warren was last season's Tyler Linderbaum for me in that he was at a position that wasn't one of the five pillars but he was the best player at his position AND one of the top talents in the draft. I cannot fuging wait for the Panthers to start winning again so that those guys fall to us like they seem to for teams like Baltimore & Philadelphia.
    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
