People on this board are probably in shock over actually having some sort of plan for the first time in 25 years.

I think this fanbase has been so use to mediocre after mediocre season that it’s just accepted. I hate to see how we react or how many people jump on the bandwagon if we ever become good season after season

Everyone wants a quick fix when the smarter move is usually to play the long game.

Tepper is a billionaire, due in large part to his ability to identify, promote and empower talented people across multiple industries. None of you have that resume. Tepper not picking the guy you wanted for a certain position is no reason for the weepy hand wringing going on in threads like this, of which there are many.

He fired Rivera during the season. He was very public about it. He hasn't fired Hurney because he thinks he's useful for some reason. I don't see it, but I am not privy to what Tepper's plans are, and neither is anyone else on this board.

Why don't you give him a season with his hand picked staff before you do stupid things like labeling him 'Jerry Jones 2.0.'

The lack of news during this dead period seems to have sent you guys up your own assholes.

Having a designated fall guy is useful. Well, probably not because everyone will see right through it but honestly I have to think that's Marty's primary purpose. If Tepper truly does think that Marty is the guy to oversee a rebuild then we're in a lot bigger trouble than I thought.

From Max Henson on Panthers.com...

Remember Tepper said Marty Hurney was one of the best "recognizers" of college talent. Well now the staff is said to include "some of the best developers of talent in the league". This despite the fact that they have yet to coach a single game together and there's precious little NFL coaching experience to even be found on the staff

It's cool to be encouraging and supportive and all, but I'm one that prefers to keep it somewhat realistic. As far as real analysis though, I'm gonna guess that he doesn't actually believe this statement just yet.

If he does, I hope he's right because otherwise...yikes :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

Ya... he’s bought into Hurney hook line and sinker. Not good. What he’s missing is the fact these people developed high school talent into college talent. Not college into pro talent.

Which would be stupid reasoning.

Not if we're expecting big things from Cam in the future and don't want to kick the guy who drafted him to the curb.

Cam Newton himself said he would absolutely be here, the franchise QB, saying he will absolutely be here, and everybody here is resigned to the fact he is gone. I don't get it.

He's 30 .. why would he not become healthy again? What if we had given up on Thomas Davis .. and TD was not a former MVP QB

Im all for moving on from Cam if we let Hurney's third round pick start all 16 games and we land Lawerence or Fields. If we don't land one of those two we are screwed. This year we should let everyone walk. Not spend a dime in free agency, let all of our draft picks start and hopefully get the first pick. Imagine if we got a future first for Cam and ended up with Lawerence and Jamar Chase. CMC, Dj Moore, Curtis Samuel with Jamar Chase and Lawerence as the QB. Also with a TON of money to spend (Again if we move on from Cam)

Yeah, the teams that move on from franchise QBs with no plan usually flounder for years. The ones with smooth transitions find the replacement while still rolling with the other guy (49ers with Montana/Young, Packers with Favre/Rodgers) or get damn lucky with their timing (Colts with Manning/Luck).

Thinking that Marty is owed any kind of loyalty just because he drafted Newton is stupid.

You earn loyalty by building good teams, not by drafting one player.

Marty builds sh-tty teams around Newton. frankly, if you're a Newton fan, Marty is the last person you should be loyal to.

Who is the one “NFL GUY” in the building you can trust right now? If this rebuild the was brainchild of a seasoned, front office vet with limited blemishes on their track record, or a proven HC with NFL credentials, I could see more fans getting on board with it.

Like I said yesterday, it seems pretty clear to me that this is the full on Tepper show. Marty is being retained because he's willing to be a rubber stamp for Tepper and he makes the perfect fall guy if it all blows up spectacularly. I just cannot be convinced that anyone as intelligent and analytical as David Tepper can look at Hurney's track record and conclude anything other than he's just plain not a good NFL GM. There's a reason why no one touched him after we fired him the first time around.

Which, this scenario also means we have a Dan Snyder/Jerry Jones on our hands.
