Pretty sure having DW as your starting left tackle could screw up anyone's ability to throw the deep ball.

Given. But if we're being objective, not all of his bad throws were attributable to poor protection.

A WCO wouldn't be entirely devoid of deep throws but would be less dependent on them than a Coryell system.

Agreed, I was thinking David Carr scenario. Once you're spooked and cant shake it off. As bad as our oline was last year, I'm sure ghosts were everywhere.

Dear lord, why is this even a topic? What’s funny is that as bad as Allen was, he came in week 17 and showed that he was head and shoulders above Grier. To think we passed on Maxx Crosby (he was one of our private visits) to pick Grier almost as if we didn’t have a need for DL.

I remember Rivera praising him for being able to take those hits and not letting it affect him...

...right before it started affecting him.

Yeah, I don't care who you are when you're getting blasted constantly it's going to affect you.

I remember arguing during more than one lost season that there was no point keeping Newton on the field but some people telling me he was big and tough enough to take it.

As soon as I saw the thread title I wondered how many replies it'd take for someone's panties to get in a wad and bash Cam. The answer was one reply. LOL!

Sorry to point out the obvious.  Clearly you knew that as well.  When Cam was healthy,  he had a rocket arm with deadly precision. He’s been awful since shoulder problem.

With good coaching next year and better protection Kyle Adam may surprise a lot of us.  Regardless of whether he becomes a stater or career backup, i believe he has what it takes to stick in the NFL, if not with us perhaps another team.

Who?

It was obvious that it did as the season went on. You could see him getting rid of the ball quickly almost as if he was expecting the hit. Allen got sacked 46 times in 12 starts. That’d be 61-62 in a full season. That’s right about top 5 all time. Two of the top 4 are David Carr and we know what that did to his career.

Again, silly to even bring this discussion back up but our 2019 pass blocking unit is far our worst outside of 2000. Cam was once sacked 43 times, all other seasons were in the 30s even with Shula and his 10 second drops throw it deep routes. We were a sieve from LT to C and even RG and RT weren’t solid. It was obvious that the hits took a toll and made Allen skittish as heck. You could see plays where he “felt” a rush that wasn’t there. It was there a lot, hence Little giving up multiple sacks and I believe 14 pressures in one game.

    • I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.
    • This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
    • I don’t know about shadowing and all that, but according to this, whatever we are doing is working
