Its impossible to lock down a state 100%.  What you can do is significantly alter the number of people coming into the state.  Several states set up road blocks on major highways into and out of the state, and were turning away outside visitors after confirming their information.

One of our local beaches (Folly Beach) did this. They're now being sued by the city of Charleston to open up and remove the roadblocks.

All viruses mutate and evolve. All indications are that COVID mutates significantly more slowly than the flu. That should allow a vaccine to be more effective. Most viruses tend to evolve to become less lethal, not more so. Viruses that are less deadly are a lot more biologically successful. Just look at the common cold and common flu. Not very deadly, super biologically successful. MERS, SARS, Ebola, etc. Very deadly, not very biologically successful.

They're being sued by the County of Charleston, not the city. I was like, why the hell would the CITY of Charleston be suing over this and based on what grounds?

I know Charleston well. My wife went to CofC and we lived down there for awhile. I like it, but you'll never catch me down there between between June and August. Absolutely oppressive heat.

Sadly, it is going to require folks going out, mingling and potentially infecting each other to get us to the next step in living in a post Coronavirus world. We'll know soon whether we get slammed again or if it will just be a moderate rate of infection. Sooner or later, we'll have to all go back out, but as Magneto said, "Let the pawns go first."

We've been living in a post Influenza world since the 1918 epidemic, learning to live with it's reappearances, learning how to treat it and alleviate symptoms, developing vaccines and sadly, burying tens of thousands of terminal cases each year because it can't be eradicated now or ever. We'll do the same with the Coronaviruses that will come along over the years.

yeah more than likely but now is the time to flatten this thing as much as possible so we can build up our resources and give our scientists time to figure this thing out but we have dumbasses in this country.

Welp, I’m getting furloughed today. It’s probably 50-50 on whether I’ll get to come back in August.

President and CFO project this will continue through the fall and into next spring.

I'm very sorry to read that. Many more of us will be in your shoes if things are not reopened soon.

We've flattened the poo out of it vs. projections. Now is the time to start opening back up but fining the poo out of people who aren't following precautions.

good luck with that

We're at the point that if we don't start doing something we're going to be staring down the barrel of the Great Depression 2.0.

We just need people to not be idiots which is the tough part. Start fining the poo out of people and maybe it'll have the desired effect.

Many people think COVID-19 kills 1% of patients, and the rest get away with some flulike symptoms. But the story gets more complicated. Many people will be left with chronic kidney and heart problems. Even their neural system is disrupted. There will be hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, possibly more, who will need treatments such as renal dialysis for the rest of their lives. The more we learn about the coronavirus, the more questions arise. We are learning while we are sailing. That’s why I get so annoyed by the many commentators on the sidelines who, without much insight, criticize the scientists and policymakers trying hard to get the epidemic under control. That’s very unfair.

there is no easy answer here. you try to do a state by state thing and you have poo like what happened this past weekend in georgia. 60k people drove in from neighboring states because they're fuging bored. america is full of some of the most narcissistic people on the planet. whats really sad is i look around my neighborhood, and neighbors i genuinely liked before this pandemic show their true colors with how they are responding to this.

whats probably going to happen is a segment of the population is gonna stay home even when things "open up" until scientists start figuring this virus out better. and then there will be a segment of the population that goes out and spreads this poo all over and kills a bunch of people and themselves. the economy is going to take major hits for the forseeable future regardless. the economy was tanking before the stay at home orders were issued.

I won't say that very early on that I said the economic impacts of staying in quarantine would far outweigh the death toll from this virus but.......

Don't know how many of you are paying attention to the mystery (yes, mystery) illness hitting children in NY, LA, MI, IL, and Louisiana, but if it is connected to corona than it opens up a whole new situation. It resembles Kawasaki disease, but isn't. And it's hitting corona hotspots. Pretty scary.

Definitely concerning but also a rare complication. 85 total confirmed cases throughout the country.

Sorry to hear that brother.  Rumors are circulating that we will be furloughed in the coming weeks.  It's only a matter of time before I will be joining you on the unemployment line.
