I think the plan is to get a QB in the draft this year, and if one we like doesn’t fall to us this year we tank for Lawrence next year. 
 

it’s very risky imo, plan is to develop said QB to where they are hitting their stride when Tampa and New Orleans and possibly Atlanta are going to be starting their next rebuilds. All 3 of their QB’s are aging on the end of their careers.

Panthers aren’t planning to compete with New Orleans and Tampa for the next 2 years....

we are planning to wait them out.

make no doubt if you still had any at this point. This is a full rebuild with our plan to start competing again in 2022 at the earliest, probably 2023.

Again, a really dumb way to look at things. So, we’ll gain $19M in total cap space but we should worry about the $2M in dead cap that’s already included today in our cap numbers? It’s not new. Cam’s 2020 cap number is $21M. When we trade or release him, his cap number is $2M. We save $19M but unfortunately we are just giving that to Teddy.

Unless the plan is to make Teddy look serviceable to trade him as well, we should have just gone Grier if we didn’t want Cam. No need to try and risk losing the top pick. Even if you don’t like Lawrence, the trade value of next year’s 1st is huge.

If we didn’t sign Teddy and traded away Lawrence for future picks, that would have been pretty doable.

If we truly want Lawrence/Fields - - winning 4 or 5 games isn't helping that.  So say we're picking in the 4-7 range next year, only to trade the farm of future draft picks to move up and get the guy we could've gotten for "free" or less capital by trotting out Allen/Grier. Not to mention our best trade asset in CMC probably isn't going anywhere, because Tepper still has to market somebody and sell jerseys. Also for the record, I don't want CMC traded at all. We accidentally put ourselves in the perfect position, only to screw it up.

So why trade Trai Turner for a one year rental at LT then if you are trying to compete 2 years from now? I don’t mind the trade but if you are competing two years from now is much rather have a draft pick. Too many moves show retooling while all others say rebuild.

Yeah, that move makes no sense in hindsight. Trai should've been traded for pick(s).
