I hope I'm wrong, but I think Cam's career might be over.

It could be but I will say that his IG is nothing but endearing.  The nighttime cookout dancing video is glorious and he's staying positive.

He's such a good dude.  Really wish this situation worked out differently for us all from a football standpoint :(

I think Cam's biggest problem is that he could never be a backup QB.  His personality is just too big.  We've heard for years that his teammates love his leadership.  Unfortunately, that's the last thing you want from a backup QB.  It would divide your locker room.

Also, how could any QB be comfortable as a starter when your backup is CAM FREAKING NEWTON.  The guy is frankly a legend.

I feel bad for how this has all gone down.  If this is the end of his career, he deserved MUCH better.

a legend?  Lets take it easy here

yeah, Cam isn't a backup QB right now.   He would be a media circus through no fault of his own.

It's not a good sign when the team that drafted you cuts you loose, with time remaining on your contract

It's not a good sign when you have no trade value (regardless of "leverage" or whatever anyone wants to say)

It's not a good sign when you haven't won a game in your last 8 starts

It's not a good sign when you've missed 16 games in the last two seasons due to injury

It's not a good sign when your throwing shoulder has sustained multiple injuries and surgeries, and you haven't been able to practice a full schedule in years

It's not a good sign when you're having emotional breakdowns on Instagram on the regular

Now, Cam is a baller, and I know we'd all love to see him bounce back from this. But I just don't see it. Even without the pandemic and quarantines, it's uncertain if he would pass a physical. While he brings talent and potential to any team that signs him, he also comes with a monumental amount of baggage. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't on a roster when training camp begins, whenever that is....

Just Kidding--mocking those who play that card as they come to realize what many of us have been saying for years.

Seriously, the things that made Cam great are the same things that threatened his longevity.

Look at his career rushing stats. They're unprecedented at the QB position. He's an MVP.

Yeah, like it or not, legend is very fair.

I kinda think of Cam as a pioneer and a freak.  He landed in the lap of a coach and OC that had no idea how to use him, and they destroyed him.  Yes, his style of play--the things that made him great were dangerous--and I cringed while others were cheering.

Cam will start somewhere in 2020, it's just unclear now with all of the Covid social distancing with physicals/workouts/etc.

A starting QB or two always goes down (unfortunately) and Cam will be there. Especially this year given how trimmed back OTAs will probably be in order to minimize delays to a September kickoff.

I think seeing a team signing Cam as a QB2 on the bench is one of the most surreal, unimaginable visions.

If Tyrod friggin Talor and Jacoby Brissett and a host of other less talented QB's can stay on a roster I'll bet anything Cam will find his way onto a roster. It might be a back up to start but don't mess up and put him in the game because he will not relinquish that starting job if you do.

Yeah, pretty much. Shula's offensive game plan pretty much consisted of just leaning on Cam's unique abilities to cover up any and all other weaknesses.

The Titans are probably going to end up doing the same thing to Derrick Henry for what it's worth.

I think the biggest problem is he's not supposed to be fully healed quite yet, and teams aren't willing to take the risk on trading for him without knowing where he stands. In the same way, Carolina wasn't willing to take the risk that they wouldn't know if they had a fully healthy QB until all the good FA guys were gone and the draft was over.

Losing Cam is the worst day as a Panthers fan since losing Delhomme outside of losing Luke. The only bearable part was seeing it coming.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
