Thomas Davis vs Cam Newton

Lots of people are upset that "we didnt send Cam off the right way"

Im not in that camp. I mean look at how McNabb, Favre, Manning and Brady all were let go. The NFL is all business, so I really didnt expect anything more.

That being said, I think that TD was as much or more of leader for the team and very little was said about this when he left (and both guys will be part of the ring of honor).

But which player do you think deserved more of a send off?

Brady wasn’t resigned and it happened last week, plenty of time to hook up with a team.

Green Bay had already drafted a first round guy that sat for 3 seasons waiting for retire, not, retire, not— sweet what’s mine say, dude what’s mine say, to go away... and he did.  Favre unretired and got traded to the Jets... he asked for it.

McNabb I don’t remember what the hell happened there,..

Manning had an “end of career” type of injury and they drafted Andrew Luck... oh and John Elway wet himself AFTER Manning was officially cleared to play...

All different.

The Panthers could have made up their minds weeks ago and traded Cam pending a physical... but they waited.

they waited until the last minute, picked up another quarterback, ruined any chance of trade and then waited until every available worthy free agent had been signed to release Cam.

a true last fork stabbed in the guy that probably made it attractive for Tepper to buy in the first place...

Cam was way more talented at a more important position and became the face of the franchise when we desperately needed one. TD was a better “Panther” and embodied Keep Pounding like no one except the man himself. They are both absolute legends and shouldn’t be compared.

the difference is that TD was given 100 chances to return after his injuries, which were far more frequent and serious than Cam's. if the team treated TD the way they treated Cam he would have been gone in 2009 or 2010 after his first or second ACL tear.

I think our staff didn’t think we would be able to get Teddy. As soon as we did, Cam was told to find a trade. He couldn’t find one (because he is considered a risk and $20 million for a high risk player doesn’t look promising to most franchises). Final step is to release him and let him negotiate a contract with another team.

Interesting comparison, especially given the gestures of confidence, both in pressers and on paper, Davis was repeatedly given. I agree with the sentiment that this was a business decision and further agree with the decision itself. However, even I am having a hard time accepting that you can get value for Kyle Allen in a trade but Cam walks for nothing. That is a failure in handling the situation that started a while back; I was at that Niner game and everyone kept asking, "is Cam even here?"

The 1 that played in Super Bowl 50 with his broken arm in a cast...The same guy that returned from 3 Major knee injuries and became the unquestioned leader of the Defense.

Wow you mean to tell me this organization stuck it out with a guy who tore his knee to shreds 3 times in a row?!

Too bad Cam didnt get that same opportunity

Well gee, I dont know let's think about it for a minute shall we? Since we are having such a difficult time understanding?

Davis first two injuries occurred under the Fox regime. He came back in 2011 and got hurt under Rivera and Co. They STILL brought him back even though they had every right to move on.

Cam got hurt, didnt miss anywhere CLOSE to the time TD missed and was pretty much pushed out the door by our FO. The question has been is Cam healthy? Well so far all signs have pointed to YES. So why wasn't he given an opportunity? Seems like they made up their minds to replace Cam with Teddy a long time ago regardless if Cam was healthy or not.

So no I dont need a phone call from Cam to figure out he wasn't given much of a chance to keep his job. This was Tepper/Rhule/Marty's plan from the beginning
