CAROLINA: After the Panthers traded for Russell Okung, sources around the NFL don't expect Carolina to draft an offensive tackle in the first round. One source suggested Matt Rhule and Joe Brady could surprise a lot of people and draft a wide receiver at No. 7 overall. "Look at that LSU offense. They're going to need more athletes at wide receiver to run Brady's scheme," is how the scout explained it.

Carolina could have the scariest offense in 2020 with Joe Brady, Teddy Bridgewater, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, Jeudy or Lamb with Curtco being a nice #4.

This is just click bait. Kliff Kingsbury soon realized that you can't stay in 10 personnel in the NFL and be successful. We have DJ Moore and Curtis Samuel already on the roster. This offseason brought us Robby Anderson, Seth Roberts, and Pharoh Cooper (mainly as a return man). One of those guys is going to be off the field most of the game. The addition of a top WR would be criminal with the holes we have at DT, CB and NB.

I would not be surprised at all.  

What if that is why we are seeing rumors about Samuel?  Maybe if they draft Jeudy they look to move him.

I would, love for us to take a receiver in this class, just not with our first pick.  That is one reason I'm not too opposed to a trade down at 7.  I would love to get a WR in the 2nd, and still be able to get a CB and DL in the first 2 rounds.

I don’t think that we will even have a chance to sniff Okudah or Simmons. I think they are both top 4 locked.

I do not see this in relation to what we did in the free agency.  I put this together so I could see it:

Emerging as an elite WR.  Moore is smooth.  With Anderson to take focus off him, he could take another step.

Deep threat, but can do more.  Jets did not use him well.  We will. Anderson has good speed, hands, and fights for the ball in air.  He could be really good in the right system. He thinks this is the right system, which is why he rejected a better offer from the Jets.

Could be the next “Swiss army knife” slot WR—I am not sure we used CS like he should have been used.

Seth Roberts

Slot WR by trade, elusive after the catch, clutch player with suspect hands.  6-2 at age 29.  I did not like this signing, considering the WRs in the draft. Big, one-year contract. ($3+m)

Keith Kirkwood

Was Saints’ 3rd WR (stats) in 2018 in only 8 games, injured in 2019.  At 25, he has upside and this “prove it” season should be a good one.  I think he is a diamond in the rough and should make the roster.  Not sure about his contract amount, so he is likely to be on the bubble in camp.

Pharoh Cooper

Cooper caught 25 passes last season in limited duty; he has strong return skills.  He has a spot on the roster, imo, as a #5 or #6—remember, Brady flirts with 5 WR sets…1 year, reasonable contract ($1.3m or so)

Brandon Zylstra

He is my dark horse, but he was impressive in limited duty last seasons.  A possession WR, would have to get some breaks to see a roster spot.  However, he has a shot, based on last season.

DeAndrew White

At 28 in his third season, he was brought back as camp fodder, but he did flash in preseason enough last year to get a close look in camp.

Analysis:  The Panthers seem financially committed to the top 4 WRs and have some young, talented, veteran WRs in Cooper and Kirkwood.  That is six.  If we draft a WR, someone will need to be cut.  With two, potentially-elite WRs in Moore and Anderson, and with Samuel at #3, it is hard to see the need to add a WR at this point.  Brady has enough weapons--solid top end (Anderson, Moore), good middle (Samuel, Roberts), and developing young (25) players at the bottom of the WR roster (Kirkwood, Cooper).

There are two ways to look at the deep WR draft---1) yes, the WRs available could make us awesome, but if we select a WR, we don’t select a player at another position where we may have a much bigger need.  2) If everyone is grabbing WRs in this draft, it causes other players to drop—like DTs, CBs, and LBs.

Games are played on the field, not on Madden.  This also isn't 7-on-7, so OL and DL actually matter.  Atlanta and Tampa had the deepest/talented WR corps last year and neither finished above .500.  I'm not getting this stack the deck mentality at WR considering the roster is full of holes.  Taking arguably the most complete position on the team, making it even stronger while other spots barely have starters makes no sense to me.

Nah. No chance we're taking a WR in the first three or four rounds.

This is a huge class of quality WRs and hopefully many teams will dip into that pool and the deep QB one as well, leaving more quality defensive players available to us.

      Yeah he's the reason we weren't up by td's at that point lol, DC having to get creative just to get into field goal range and then immediately trusted his rookie kicker. to kick a 48 yarder in the wind rather then let Bryce try and complete a couple 5 yard play action passes to get in better position when Green Bay had their whole fuging team in the box to stop Dowdle lol. Twice in a row. If it was already under 40 I'd get just running to set up the hashes but jeez..

      JMO, I think it is lame as hell to publicly give up on the team and then crawl back when they win a few games. Like, how can you run a PANTHERS PODCAST and then give up on it during the season? Yes, you can argue the Panthers prior to Week 3 hadn't done anything to deserve fanfare, but nobody made them run a Panthers Podcast.  They chose to.  So stick with it.  Instead they gave up and did so publicly.  Which is well within their right - but you can't then turn around and bring it back the same season.

      The crazy thing about football is it’s a team sport. But one position can make or break the game. And one of the best ways in doing that is by not giving the ball away and being able to run at 4-5 yard clips. Throw in a couple passes and next thing you know you’re in the red zone. Playing this way limits possessions to other(more dynamic) QBs too. And if your defense plays well that could equate to between 4 and six series. If you’re running that efficient, you can say, split the offensive production with the run or the pass. So by attempt byce accounted for his half of the yardage and Rico did too. Rico also managed to punch it in at the goal line. And you gotta give it to our oline and they’re running blocking and that’s without TMO! so the truth is, Canales and management figured out how to use Bryce’s strengths to compliment this run game to cover up his weaknesses in a way that is efficient. And our defense showed improvement against pretty formidable opponent the week after andy dalton gave it to buffalo. They are putting winning football on the field more often, and we are slowly becoming better each week. I hope they can keep it up.
