Interesting statement---well said and it makes perfect sense for me.

In some ways they are much different kinds of DT's. Kinlaw is more of a pass rushing specialist and Brown is more of a  bull that can impact the run and push QB's in the pocket. Kinlaw is an athlete and Brown is a freakishly strong guy.

The kid is from a hard scrabble childhood including homelessness and unsettled family life.  One background write up told the story of going to a JUCO in Mississippi where he went hungry the first few days because he had no money for meals.  The coach finally told him that the cafeteria was free for athletes.... and he proceeded to gain 40 lbs the 1st semester.

I always root like hell for these types of guys.

Space eater or pass rush?  I agree its a decent question.  Brown is not the Bear you think all the time...he was also surrounded by talent on defense.

You're right but let me show you something..

How many times did they single block him??

With all that talent around him they made sure most of the time he had 2 to 3 guys dedicated to him..

What happened most times they gave him a 1 on 1?? Lol

Kinlaw doesn't line up all over the Dline.. Brown does..

Those guys from the bottom tend to be pretty motivated.

I like Kinlaw more than Brown. The kid didn’t even have to play in the Senior Bowl after showing he was a stud in a couple of practices. I rather trade back and take Kinlaw than taking Brown at 7.

Yea Kinlaw is definitely a better pass rusher and still good in the run game, Brown is definitely better in the run game and still good as rushing the passer. I’d be happy with either, but if it were up to me I’m swinging for the fences with Kinlaw. His upside is Aaron Donald.

If we fall in love with Kinlaw, fine we better try like hell to trade down to 12 or 13. Interestingly the teams at 12 and 13 both have 2 first round picks. Would San Fran give up 13 and 31 for 7? Maybe; I suspect that's not too outlandish of a deal based on the trade chart. You have a great chance to still get Kinlaw and grab an extra first rounder in the process. Even if you have to get a worse deal, you have to be aggressive and do it if you're adamant on taking Kinlaw. San Fran says they want a 3rd back? Sucks but you'd rather have pick 31 than our 3rd rounder and if we'd be picking the same player at 13 that we want at 7, it's like getting to move up from 69 to 31 for free.

The numbers aren't saying this..

Brown was the key player that made the rest of that defense “talented”.

    • That's a very incorrect statement right off the bat, coaches get fired for winning ugly all the time.  Every coach of a playoff team that then gets fired, got fired because they won ugly and didn't improve their players enough to win in the postseason. Guys like Andy Reid have been fired for "winning ugly" like you said, because they kept winning in spite of the improvement of their players. Also, "this is a fanbase starved for wins" is a statement I also don't agree with, I'm not "starved for wins", I'm "starved for a winning and contending franchise" which are two VERY different things. If the team and fans just want to win some games, then that's a loser mentality, sorry, but it is.  We should want to contend, not win a handful of games.  Every time this comes up I point back to the Lions the last 5 years or so.  They were losing games but improving every week while doing so a few years back.  THAT is how you improve as a franchise and move the needle towards contending, not winning games ugly.
    • Good lord. I don’t think I have ever seen a hole that open.
    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games that run counter to vast work......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
