CMC signs extension

While I hate paying RB's, he's also our best receiver and in Joe Brady's offense is likely to flourish more than ever before.  I'm sorry, Kamara doesn't have CMC's skill, just wasn't used to his fullest extent.  he's also now the new face of the panthers, cant afford to lose him.  If used correctly, he definitely can earn that contract, and I'm more confident under this regime that he will.

People really think this is being overpaid? If for whatever he is getting too much wear at running back he can play out the rest of his career as a great wide receiver. He doesn't just have to be a running back. Hell he isn't just a running back.

Exactly.

Who else is making this much base/yr?  Davante Adams, Sammy Watkins, Alshon Jeffery, Allen Robinson.  We're fine.  This isn't a bad Hurney deal.  Maybe he slows down at the end of the contract but the guy is 23.  Look what LT was able to do his first 8 season.

I’m not stating my opinion or saying I agree with any of this. I’m basically reiterating stuff Tepper has already talked about. This is a “process” and we’re going to lose before we start winning again but we should trust the process according to Tepper.

Keeping McCaffrey around helps keep Tepper’s product relevant during this so called “process” aka the Panthers sucking ass for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, I guess it is just an odd move overall to pay a RB so much money during a time period where he is going to likely be on some very bad teams. Hopefully this pays off in 4-6 years.

If he stays healthy and produces the way he has for the next four years, it's a steal. RBs like CMC are about to be paid a lot more moving forward, we got CMC locked up on the smaller side of that right now. QBs are about to drop in value in terms of cap as teams continue to win by having an OK-to-good QB and elite skill players around him.

I was about to start a thread talking about we should seriously consider trading him.  His trade value would never be higher then it is this offseason and paying him this amount was only a matter of time.

The only way you can remotely justify paying this kind of money to a RB, is if he used heavily in the passing game, and just not on screens and check downs, because any running back can do that for you.

With that being said CMC is one of the few RBs in the league that has that potential.

I hope we don't end up regretting this.  I wouldn't have done it, but at the same time if they would have traded him the fan base would have had a fit.  It almost takes more nerve not to pay him then it does to pay him.

0% chance.  I can say without a shadow of a doubt he misses significant time this season

First off, no you can't. Second, it's fair to say that literally any player stands a 50/50 chance of getting hurt on any given play. So, realistically, we shouldn't pay anybody. Sign rookies to their rookie deals, sign FAs for one year deals, because tying up money long term is a big risk if a player misses significant time.

Curious...were you in the "sign Cam to whatever he wants" camp?

I will bet anything he misses time this season.  I will take whatever bet someone wants to do

He is exceptional but take the three best examples of a dual threat RB listed in this thread(Curtis Martin, LT, Marshall Faulk). One combined Super Bowl ring.

RB's don't carry teams to Super Bowls anymore.

LT got very close, his team just choked when it mattered because chargers. that team was consistently contending tho. and again, CMC isn't just a RB. the only player in that list on CMCs level in terms of receiving ability is faulk, the one who has a ring and went to another super bowl as well.

    • I was definitely on board with re-signing Darnold for another year while they drafted someone. Darnold really turned a corner once he came back in the second half of 2022. He is one of the better QBs in the NFL now for sure. Still makes those patented Darnold blunders though, evidenced by throwing a pick on a potential game winning drive yesterday. But he was also stellar at times during that game too.
    • I dare you to go “pull the records” on my Cam posts. 🤣🤣🤣  Kyle Allen posts too.  I was one of the few screaming how garbage he was early.  Also, look up the posts and see what side I was on when it was rumored Olsen tried to console Cam his rookie year after a tough loss.  And whose side I was on when people criticized Cam for the towel, or “pouting” or for dancing.  I have never wavered.  Not only do I pull for Cam as an athlete, but I felt a kinship with him dating back to his Florida days.  I wrote about it here.  I know what it’s like to be judged off your persona, your reputation that someone else has given you, off falsehoods, off appearances, off of a mistake.  I know what it’s like to be ridiculed and omitted from opportunities for those things.  I’ve never me Cam, but that’s my brother.  So, anything insinuating anything else is hilarious.  I was riding for Cam when half the board wanted Marcel Dareus.🤣  I was riding for Cam and running off racists like “TheRealDeal” over Matt Moore (who, actually was a damn good QB, imo, but he was no Cam).  To this day, I still maintain, if we signed Cam off the street right now, he is the best QB on this roster instantly.  I don’t care what anyone says.   So if you have some sort of previous history with another poster or posters that made the racial component obvious, then please share, but when it’s coming from me?  Trust and believe - this ain’t that.  Never will be.  And no doubt, a ton of Cam hate was purely racial.  But, I call a spade a spade.  Mentioning Bryce in the same breath as Cam is objectively insulting.
    • I haven’t. And always willing to show face. If you’re going to a game let me know. Love for you to explain why I’m an idiot to my face.
