Rumor: Panthers Interested in Acquiring Haason Reddick

Recommended Posts

It makes too much sense. He played under Rhule at Baylor and Rhule has commended Reddick on playing the game the right way.

I definitely feel like Reddick needs the right scheme, coaching and system to thrive, and we have that here. Not saying it’s a guarantee to work, but if it’s to work anywhere for the youngster, it would be here.

Trading AZ one of our miscast LB/DE that Snow doesn’t want plus a 7th should do it.

Agreed with others above, it's honestly a win-win to me.  Toss a conditional 6th to them based on playing time or something, turns into a 7th if not met.

Panthers get a former 1st round Rhule guy who either works out, or he's good depth for a late pick.  If he works, imagine his contract would still be on the lower end and we just locked in an "underpaid" starter. If he magically explodes and signs elsewhere for bigger money, hello comp pick.

if we give up a draft pick after we've been atypically apathetic towards compensatory picks im going to be concerned that this team doesn't see the opportunity presenting itself at the QB position in the next draft

we aren't in a dolphins or jaguars position where we have a nice selection of good players whom it just isnt working out with that could fetch a high draft pick if we needed to move up to secure a QB.

They can't save any money by cutting him. He is on his rookie deal. All that money is guaranteed. They could perhaps cut him but he has been a productive backup for them, so I don't see why they would unless roster spots are tight.

You are correct although the cap sites do mention the last year salary savings. Seems like they could push it all into 2021. Also, I’d assume there’s offset language, so if he was picked up and paid, they would save cap space and cash. No clue if the agent/team could negotiate a deal to screw Arizona as much as possible in 2020. Looks like $720k is minimum salary for 3 years so they’d save that and could push out the signing bonus so they could save $2.6M or more in 2020 knowing that we’d 100% sign him. We’d probably also not take that offset into account, SMH.

If they haven't "gladly" move on from him, I don't see why a 4th wouldn't motivate them to actually do it.

No sir. A 4th is way too much for Reddick. I get your angle, but if that's the price, then it's a hard pass. AZ is about to cut him and have next to no leverage. If anything, we toss them a 6th or 7th just as fodder to ensure we don't have to fight off any competition as a FA.... though I still think he would come here bc of our coaching staff and ability to start.

Unless it changed with the new CBA, if you trade a rookie, his cap allotment remains with the team that drafted him. So, there isn't much financial incentive to make those trades(a reason why they are relatively rare). There also isn't much in the way of negotiating the rookie contracts. The scale is set by the NFL.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
