Legendary NFL Coach Don Shula Dies

How can Shula have only 2 losing season the entire time he coached the Dolphins (25 years) and since he left they have only 9 winning seasons (25 years).  He must have done something right.  That and their owners and management sucks something awful now.

On days like this and during times like these, we all, to a certain extent, have those moments of clarity when we begin to come to grips with our own mortality. With the passing of anyone we seemingly grew up with; a sports star, a musician, actor or personality, it's a reminder that we're not forever.

I was in high school when the Dolphins went undefeated. I remember that team and, at that time, none of us had ever seen a QB like Marino. None of us had witnessed the speed of Paul Warfield; we had not seen a backfield like Jim Kiick and Larry Csonka. And none of us understood the coaching genius of Don Shula. Say what you will about Bill Belichick, but the greatest NFL coach in my mind will always be Don Shula.

NFL records
  • Most regular season wins as a head coach (328)
  • Most total wins as a head coach (347)
  • Only undefeated season through regular season and playoff

He was that good.

His one kryptonite: Marv Levy. I remember one writer saying if Levy didn't own Shula, he at least had a lease with an option to buy.

Sad for his family, but at least the article said he went peacefully at home.  It could honestly be said no team went an entire season undefeated since the '72 Dolphins in Don's lifetime.  One of many great accomplishments. R.I.P.

    • Rods the one who needs to go if they don't win a cup soon, Overall I like the way Tulsky operates, do i wish he had pivoted to several smaller moves instead of going all in on a big acquisition? Obviously.   But RBA is the one I'm locked onto, he is too stuck in his ways and if if "his way" can't get somthing done he just triples down and proves his insanity by trying the same stupid crap over and over, the facebook casuals will be like but but but 8 years in a row making the playoffs.... yes we'll guess what we should have at least a cup to show for it, yes only one team wins every year but this year will be the 8th consecutive year making the playoffs.... heck none of us even get excited about that and haven't in four years minimum.  Our top guys are nearing the peak of their prime the time is now, but the canes seem content to stand pat and "make the playoffs" anther 5-8 years in a row.
    • #Panthers TE Tommy Tremble has a $2 million guarantee that is triggered today at 4 p.m. I don’t expect any movement there, fwiw. Tremble is due a $3.67 million base salary this season. He has another $2.4 million in incentives on his deal, per Over the Cap. https://x.com/mike_e_kaye/status/2032117015121391697?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • If we could somehow get Salyer and Decker I'd take both and trade Stone Forsyth for a barrel of trash can punch.
