Jonathan M. Alexander is a native of Charlotte. He began covering the Carolina Panthers for the Observer in July after working at the N&O for seven years, where he covered a variety of beats, including UNC basketball and football, Duke basketball, recruiting and schools, public safety and town government.

They should just dual hire D Newton because he is the only one not leaving, even though it would be a mercy to us fans. What say yall, 2 years and he moves on?

Exactly. LOL

The pay must be garbage at the Charlotte Observer because these reporters run for the hills the first chance they get.

Im familiar with him from the UNC beat. He doesn’t seem like a bad guy, but he has certainly been a part of the Raleigh N&O crusade against all things UNC Tar Heels and absolutely spread fake news and negative stories about Carolina in his short time there. The triangle media has a hard on for UNC and his coverage was average at best. Certainly not as bad as Dan Kane or Andrew Carter  or Brownlow.

This guy focused more on try to “get” UNC a lot more than he ever did on any actual sports

the observer is garbage

Have to agree with you on this. He wasn’t as bad as some of the other people at the N&O but their coverage is extremely biased against UNC.

DeCock was the ringleader in that circus, correct?

Kane is the ringleader. He and Andrew Carter still harass Carolina with bogus FOIA requests.

here is one from Alexander in June 22 - https://nextrequest.unc.edu/requests/20-259

no doubt looking to try and dig up some dirt and find any thing at all that he can spin as some garbage against UNC.

I think one way, and correct me if I’m wrong, that UNC can make it more difficult for these idiot reporters like Kane, Jon Solomon, etc to harass UNC is to privatize the athletic department. I’m sure the money is there to do so.

Dan Kane was the worst one

Kane has slowly moved on to reporting about local government corruption, misuse of government resources, police and CO misconduct - ya know, stuff that really matters and deserves to be heard about. NOT spending almost a decade of his life floating conspiracy’s from pack pride and making a big deal about athletes taking easy courses in college. He is a hack.

N&O reporters also barely have investigated or discussed the pay for play and federal investigation at NC$T with Dennis Smith and they have completely turned a blind eye with the payments to Zion from duke ERRRR I mean a “third party”.

    • I sure not 12 but don't even think I want to be that young again.  I am 78 and was a Combat Medic Nam 67-68.  2nd bat 39 Inf Batalion 9 Inf.Div.  You can go to face book we there was atatched E Co Recon.  I posted the pic because I wanted you all to know that I not a fly by night fair weather fan But an I Believe Fan.  Just want to be part of the group that Loves the Panthers!!!!  .
    • Got to talk to Tiny Lister once back when I worked for AT&T.  He was a nice guy.
    • The team signed undrafted rookie JJ Weaver from Kentucky. The 25-year-old Weaver played six seasons in college (with injury waivers), and had 21.5 sacks. He was a three-time team captain for the Wildcats. To make room for him on the roster, the Panthers released outside linebacker Amare Barno. Barno, a sixth-round pick in 2022, tore his ACL late in the 2023 season and began last year on the physically unable to perform list. He had 3.0 sacks in three seasons, appearing in 29 games. Sad to see. He seemed to have a lot of potential when he was drafted. Injuries really derailed him though.
