Difference is that Butker actually kicked very well in preseason for us.  He was better than Gano, and cheaper.  The move made little sense then, and even less now.

It was a classic Rivera-Hurney move, tbh. I don't know how much control Rivera had over the roster but preferring Gano to Butker would have been exactly how he rolled given the players we typically saw.

I mean Favre was traded By Atlanta,  Brees was not resigned By the Chargers, etc.  it happens.  Amazing to me how this Board hugs the nuts of a kicker.  Hell all teams make decisions that turn out to be bad for them.

For those tht did not see the sequence -

he kicked a 53 yarder that was nullified by penalty.

he then kicked a 58 yarder that was nullified by timeout.

he then nailed a 58 yarder that probably woulda been gone from 65 yards.

insane.
