Risers and Fallers - Panthers at Chargers

Jackson seemed to play well, but again, left the field for some time after getting nicked up for the 3rd game in a row.

I don't know if he is built to handle a full season.

Slye did great.

Teddy... was serviceable. I don't know if it was the gameplan but it seemed like everything was dink and dunk aside from the one long throw to DJ. I don't know if that was all that the chargers were giving him, or he left some yards on the field. Someone would need to watch the all-22.

I like Teddy the human being but I don't know if he's the answer long term.

I also missed a good chunk of the game and didn't pay attention, but was Little in at LT at all? If so, what happened and why was Scott in at the end?

Two long throws to DJ actually.  Two very good throws to DJ as a matter of fact.  It could mean that the dink and dunk is as much on the Coaches as it is on Teddy.  Or at least that TB can throw it deep when he wants to.

Brady's offense does kind of tend in that direction.

Fallers: TE group. Still waiting on Thomas to take the next step beyond “rookie” with potential. Now is the time, my friend.

I've heard some people say that Brady's not a big fan of using tight ends in the past game. I'm not sure if that's true or if he just doesn't like the tight ends we have.

Either way, we're not getting a lot out of them.

3rd down play calling was at times horrible.

Not just third downs.

One thing I noticed about Brady- there's at least one play out of every 3 (given a 3 play series and a punt), that I'm scratching my head at the play call. Now, if that's Brady or if that's Bridge Over Troubled Water taking the second option I don't know, but at some point, especially in the red zone, you gotta throw the ball into the end zone.

The one that really stuck out to me was the one play Carolina had in the red zone following the Jackson pick. 8 seconds left on the clock- time for one shot into the end zone before settling for a FG. He threw to the underneath route, well short of the end zone. That's a college play and might have a shot in a college game. But this is the NFL and, in the NFL, the red zone is a much smaller area to work with. You gotta throw the ball into the end zone on that play.

You've really brought a lot of stellar post the past 24 hours.

It's either, you're not a real fan, get out of here.

Or, get the f out of here.

Man, stellar post. You should be voted best poster on this forum for the past 24 hours.

I know a lot of folks expected Brady to be heralded as the greatest offensive coordinator in history from the beginning. As has been pointed out though, this is his first time in charge of the whole shebang. Expectations should be tempered.

He's done well at times, and there are definitely positives (his play design is pretty good) but there were always going to be growing pains and no one should be surprised at that.

That and Bridgewater would throw two yards in front of the actual line of scrimmage.

If you watched the Saints last night you saw the same thing. Drew would throw 2 yards in front of the line to gain, and the reciever would get the first down.  Maybe its the design of the system we are running and not the decision making of Bridgewater.

I had to edit my post because I forgot that Clausen was actually backup to Matt Moore who was injured week 1

Wasn't that before concussion protocols changed too?  Some friend / relative of Moore used to post here and had some comments on that.

Btw we weren't tanking, but Jerry was spending the bare minimum. That year he called a bunch of us that wrote angry emails about the state of the team to apologize. Empty words and hollow promises from that pervert.

Its also clear he leans on CMC in the red zone... and who can blame him

I agree. Just like last year, everyone is talking about how bad the Falcons are and how the Panthers will "easily" beat them. The Panthers have ONE win against them since 2017, and even in that playoff season the Panthers needed a drop from Julio Jones in the end zone to win the game. The Falcons absolutely own the Panthers in the last 5 seasons and stupid idiot fans need to shut up about us even thinking about beating them until we actually show we can do it.

Panthers are easily the worst team in the NFC South and it's not even close. The Chargers gifted the Panthers a win yesterday and everyone acts like this team is suddenly a contender. I'm not sure what game everyone else watched, but the Chargers literally tried to lose the game at every turn, gifted the Panthers great field position multiple times, and the Panthers still barely won the game. That game should have been 42-16.

So are you impressed and encouraged by fan optimism? Or are they stupid idiots who need to shut up and quit acting like we're suddenly a contender?
