Anyone watch his game Saturday against LSU? 623 passing yards. Mike Leach is their coach now so yes air raid, however he was a former 5 star recruit who threw for 6000 yards at Stanford before getting hurt and transferring. Has experience running the west coast, and is now getting the pass happy air raid. Oh and he's 6'5 225.

With Kyler, Baker, Mahomes coming from air raid concepts, and Minshew being hot at times, I wonder what this guy will look like at the end of the season. I believe we will win 4-5 games so would be nice to grab Sewell or the Penn St. MLB and then possibly get this guy in the second? Anyone else watch any of his previous games at Stanford?

I want to see more--but that was a good outing.  I think there are some gems later in this draft, but finding them is tough mining.  Newman, for example, has the tools, but he needs a lot of work.  If he progresses at Georgia and we could groom him for a season, he might be a second round option.  Some are high on Ehlinger.

I don’t know why I can’t pin it, but I just can’t get sold on Newman

My thoughts on this are typically if you can see or project a guy in the 2nd round this early in a season, odds are he's gonna end up being a first rounder by the time we get to the draft.  Every team is looking to find a franchise QB.  It's the reason guys like Paxton Lynch, Brandon Weeden, and Manziels get drafted in the first round.

Agree but I think between playing for Leach and Gardner fizzling out this year, it might be enough uncertainty to drop him to the second. And yeah it’s only been one game, but man the kid his crazy touch

Uhhh.....Newman opted out of the season a month ago. Not sure why? But think of every possible reason or scenario and you can find someone online that claims it as fact. I know hardly anything about him and was curious how he would do. Doesn’t hurt my feelings as an Auburn fan. Much rather play against Daniels.

I think he is a day 3 pick.  I watched him a good amount at Stanford as an SC/Pac 12 fan and he was good but not great. Wasn't any better than Kevin Hogan who was a 5th round pick out of Stanford before him.  Leach's offense will help his draft stock for sure but Stanford has had really dominant OL play the past decade so he was in a good situation there as well. He's the same age as Darnold and Darnold looked much better in college. I'm hoping we get Field/Lance but if that doesn't work out I would much rather spend a day two pick on Darnold if Jets go for Lawrence.

Please for the love of dog, would people stop suggesting we use a probable top 10 pick on a linebacker?

ANY linebacker.

Not so very long ago this franchise drafted the best MLB of his generation and what exactly did it get us? Linebackers in the modern NFL impact the game the least of any of the 3 defensive tiers because they impact the passing game the least, and the NFL is long since pass whacky.

Now before you accuse me of hating on Luke, calm down. I love Luke as much as any Panther fan, but the point is he played a position that simply does not merit using a top 10 pick anymore. Not saying that we should simply be content with watching "Captain" Tahir Whitehead attempt to do whatever it is that he does, just saying don't burn a (hopefully) rare top 10 pick on a position that can no longer have the dramatic impact on the game it once could when running the ball was of greater importance.

The rumor states it was because he was projected to be the backup and he transferred there to start and showcase to drive up his NFL Draft stock.

He had a great excuse to pull the rip cord.

He is raw---and he has decided to sit out at Georgia (COVID-19) and enter the draft.  He really needed that year.  I saw his potential and nothing more.  As for Costello, he looked good against a team (LSU) of inexperienced players.  I think they had 2 starters back on defense.  Yes, the system helped him--yes, having experience helped him, but I liked him in the post-game interview.  He praised his teammates for inspiring him, for accepting him--and he only joined Miss St in June.   At any rate, he looked good.  I see his stock rising, but I also see him being a bust if he does not find the right system.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
