Weatherly and Bonnafon placed on IR - Both Out For Season

In the end, it is just two injured roster bubble dudes who are going to have to pack it in early and collect checks while they recover. In the meantime, two more roster spots open up for Rhule and Co. to audition players for next year. Weatherly has a nice contract in place for next year and Bonnafon will have to see if a new contract is offered.

Weatherly hasn't lived up to his contract yet, so I'd say his future is going to be based on whether any of the stated replacements on the team can jump over the low bar he's set (7 solo tackles, 10 assists). Honestly, it shouldn't be too hard to do. Bonnafon, well, he showed some promise but without a contract in place, he's fair game at the end of the season. You can imagine that Carolina might be quick to offer vet minimum again, but they may just move on rather than giving him the Nick Goins treatment.

Expectation is that Gross-Matos gets more playing time, which is probably a good thing and that it gives us a chance to get a look at him.

He's had moments this season but not necessarily on a consistent basis so I'd like to see more of him.

which is a welcome change from burns being benched so irvin could put together more tape.

I've got to agree with you here. Is he what everyone seems to be saying? Haven't seen but a couple of flashes, and brief ones, of his supposed greatness. Sure would be nice to find someone of say a Mike Rucker level of ability.

I think he could be good, but I haven't really seen enough to say for sure yet.

Considering the year, the season, the offseason, the lack of quality veterans at the position in the organization and injuries... it's probably way early to grade the young man. Still, there's hope.

Are you a Q guy too?

Edit: I literally told you what's happening

Do you see him back next season? I wouldn’t think so if I was our coach. I can’t remember any DE in recent memory wanting to go on IR with this many games to go because of a finger injury. The only reason I would accept this as a coach is if it’s a firework accident like JPP.

Not sure - I would just be guessing. I'm sure it depends on the moves they're able to make in the offseason and what his cap situation is.

Weatherly, Eli Apple, Seth Roberts and Whitehead...

Cap hit of about 13 million this year for a team already extremely handcuffed cap wise. Not good.

Add $13M+ from Short and we wasted more than we paid Matt Kalil.

It’s amazing how we are clearly rebuilding and yet we still manage to waste a Matt Kalil in one year for nothing. Even worse it was for no one that you’d consider a guy we’d want to get experience in a year like this.
