I'd give Haskins a look this offseason.

We accomplished what we did this year by a group of overmatched players buying into what the staff was selling them.  Most likely, heading into next season we will be less overmatched due to our 2020 draft choices having a year of NFL experience under their belts and the additions of some players through the draft and maybe free agency that can play over their heads as a team yet again.

And we really want to add a guy who, by every account I have read (both good and bad) has talent but no desire to push himself to the next level?

What would it hurt to bring in any players that aren't good? What would it hurt to bring in Nakamura to play safety? It would be a waste of time. We know he's a turd and a dumbass so why pay him to be one?

There is no "vet minimum" but there is a scale for minimum based on years of experience that dictates minimums for all levels of experience. There is a term for "vested veterans" but that is 4 years so Haskins is not that.

No--I am not saying that it was--I am saying we do not know all the variables.  How remorseful is he?  What were the factors that contributed to his bad decisions.

I am saying that he was a member of another team, and they know the inside scoop--and cut him.  So do we think CONSIDERING a second chance is worth kicking the tires.

I have never been one for bringing in a cancer--Tampa Bay and New Orleans--that is their call.  All I am saying is know the situation inside and out and if there is something there that could be salvaged, bring him in.

To extend the "kicking the tires" metaphor

A flat tire is worthless and nobody is going to pay $5 for a flat tire that let the passengers and the other 3 tires down. We all know that happened, but we really don't know (or care) how and why. Is the tire defective, or was it on a bad road?  But if you see that the tire has tread on it and you do not need it right now, it may be worth $5 and the $3 it will take to fix it.  So it is not about how much you know tires or understand that the tire is dysfunctional, it is about your ability to repair the problem so that it does not happen again. If you can and you need a tire, Win Win.  If you can't and you need a tire, you lost $8 and still need a tire.  If the bad tire rolls for another 50,000 miles, was the $8 a good investment to save a $100 tire?  This is a business, so you have to consider the risk, investment costs, and potential reward.  

So you do not think the risk/reward is not worth even kicking the tires?  I get that---and there are other tires that might work.  It is a decision that must be made and there is no right or wrong answer until we know the outcome.  If he goes on to Atlanta and develops into a QB that beats us for 10 years, we may have erred in our rush to judgement--and fans will ask, "Why did we not bring him in and kick the tires?"  More likely is the scenario that he is not worth the trouble---but Rhule is a coach who deals in discarded, unloved players and turns them into winners.  What would it hurt for them to have a visit?

Lowered expectations.................no reason to go dumpster diving for QB at this point...............

Build up the O line first like Browns and Bills have done before you worry about some QB position...............you will ruin any QB without a good O line......

Face it you are going to go through some years of underperforming to build a real future and that starts with beefing up the O line before you go after some showboating positions......

I would add a couple of things...

David Tepper and Ron Rivera did not part on bad terms. Rivera has actually said that he appreciated the way Tepper handled his being let go.

Thus, if we did take an interest in Haskins, I imagine we could ask Rivera for insight...

Rivera was typically a guy who liked to give somebody a fair chance, even if they screwed up. He certainly gave Haskins a chance, and then ended up cutting him.

I grant that Rivera's not a great talent evaluator, but the fact that Haskins managed to exhaust his patience would worry me.

You and I don’t share a lot of common takes. I would absolutely take a flier on Haskins. He isn’t going to command a big contract and he isn’t going to play next year unless Teddy gets hurt. The talent is there. He would absolutely be a more intriguing backup than Grier or Walker. A year in our system wouldn’t hurt him and in terms of contract value he isn’t going to cost a lot and he isn’t going to sign like a four year deal for cheap at his age. Give him two years and close to minimum as we can. 
 

PJ Walker and Will Grier suck, too. His ceiling is higher than theirs.

There is no "vet minimum" but there is a scale for minimum based on years of experience that dictates minimums for all levels ofPretty sure we signed Nakamura.  I am saying what if Rhule talks to him and thinks he can motivate him?  What if Washington was a bad fit and he was humiliated and demoralized all season instead of being coached up?  What if he (at age 23) childishly decided to check out because he was struggling?

Again, Jeremy did not say sign anyone.  Nakamura was signed.   He said "bring him in." That is doing your due diligence.  I am in your camp--do not want---but I also know that there are things at play (possibly) that make the situation more understandable.  I would say there is a 5% chance that Rhule leaves the meeting with Haskins ready to sign him, but Rhule has made quite a living taking unloved, discarded, overlooked players and making them winners--Ron Rivera is not that guy.

I know he's young. I know he's not been given time or proper coaching to develop. I know he had a great college career and was taken highly in the draft. But I've also never been more confident that I'll never see a QB take another snap in the NFL than I am with Dwayne Haskins. He had his chance, blew it, and I think any NFL franchise would be foolish to give him a second look.
