74-for-78 overall for last 3-seasons....."lost games" has to be a minuscule number.

They skewer him for his early career here but laud this guy who has been a disaster. Well Gano was never as bad as the past two years of Slye.

It was a downgrade and anybody with a functional brain could see that.

SMH. He had a fantastic 2017 until it counted. What distance kick did he miss against NO? 25 yard miss. How do you even do that? That one missed chip shot meant when we were at the NO 21 with 40 seconds left we were down 5 instead of 2. So instead of running up the gut to finish with a 38 yard game winning kick we forced Cam to win the game with no WRs.

IDGAF about his time with the Giants. No pressure on a 6-10 team who was left for dead and only was in it at the end because of Rivera’s coaching. Those stats are also the last 4 years or did you forget about him missing 20 games in his last two years with us.

If you want to see more costly misses, go back to the 2016 season and start at week 1. That was the year that led us to draft Butker and we should have saved all that cap space by dumping Gano before Hurney extended him.

We are attempting kicks with Slye we punted with Gano. That’s a fact

Lol. No one is lauding Slye. I don’t care because it doesn’t matter who the kicker is right now. I’m happy we at least are paying him way less, but I still think he’s nothing but a strong leg.

I don’t know why there’s alway so much love for Gano. His last 4 years with us was an awful 2016, a great 2017 regular season with a chip shot miss that cost us a chance for a playoff win at NO, an OK 2018 where the coach lost trust in him with missing 4 games and a 2019 where he was on IR all year. Man what a great four years that was for us at $14M in cap.

I’ll say it again, the love for Butker, a man with more SB rings than us, was that we’d save a ton of cap. For the last 4 years we would have had much better kicking than the key playoff kick missing, injured and inaccurate dual threat Marty gave us.

Slice it any way you like but if Gano wasn't good enough for you -- by definition Slye isn't either.

Where did I back Slye? He’s a big leg but inaccurate. Fortunately for us he’s cheap because he doesn’t matter while we can’t compete. Have we missed the playoffs or lost a playoff game due to him? Nope, so no big deal but I would love to replace him and I already posted that.

This was by far not our biggest problem, so re-signing him was a good move. He missed a few, but in a couple of cases he was called on to make extremely long (and one mythically long) field goals to salvage games. He missed and it was a let down, but he was in that position because the offense bogged down AND the defense had been unable to stop the other team even a little bit.

That being said, he isn't Jon Kasey but there just aren't many of those out there. And please, stop crying over Butker, that was a blind date that didn't work out. Maybe there's a new kicker to come in during training camp that will make the most of the opportunity. Maybe Joey Slye will keep refining his accuracy to go with the strong leg -- it is a skill that can be worked on after all.

Once or twice a year, a team needs to be able to rely upon their kicker to win a game in a desperate pinch. Hopefully, this team will learn how to win in the meantime.

Gano didn't have an "awful" 2016, and was the best in 2017! And Butler hasn't exactly been Mr. Dependable. Going down that rabbit hole, we should've signed Legatron. Please!

Why do people keep mentioning Gano and Butler? It's done! Give it a rest already! Hurney's gone! Look to the future! There's someone out there that can do better than both!

I love seeing the "Slye only misses long field goals thing" after Gano literally hit a 63-yard game winner a few years back. Slye is terrible beyond 50. Gano has been magic anywhere the last three years.

Lmao I love that you think that's to blame for that game. Yes, he missed a 25-yarder in the 1st quarter. That's pretty bad. Kickers should make that. He also made a 58-yarder before halftime, which you don't normally expect kickers to make. So it balanced out. Obviously you want both, but that's not the reason we lost

The reason we lost was simple: Funchess dropped a gimme touchdown with 11 seconds left.

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
