He also drafted Cam.

But then again he drafted Jimmy as well

From the stories I've read behind the scenes, the guy that was most instrumental in the Panthers deciding to draft Cam Newton was Khary Darlington...

...also known as the guy who took a settlement package and signed a non-disclosure agreement after Jerry Richardson used a racial slur on him.

That’s interesting.

Joe Person had a pretty detailed article where he talked to several of the people involved.

Darlington was the guy who scouted Newton and became his biggest advocate when some others doubted him.

This would be a Rivera hire, if they pull the string.  Rivera insures that the GM spot is filled by a 'friendly' that will cover his flank.  Heaven forbid that a GM with good analytical skills and a record of success were to get that position.  Rivera could only hide his weaknesses for so long before that GM sniffs him out and decides that a coaching change is needed.  Just my opinion.

Ron is the boss...the GM reports to him.

There were plenty of reasons to doubt him coming out of college for sure. Him and Ron together never really made sense to me.

I was at Cams Pro Day and the main person selling Rivera on Cam was Shula. He loved Cam. Rivera left Auburn convinced.

Some defensive coaches love "do it all" quarterbacks because it allows them to concentrate their resources on the defense. It's why Buddy Ryan loved Randall Cunningham.

Ryan was one of Rivera's coaching mentors.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
