I honestly wouldn't place any big bets on us getting either one.

Gotta come out of this off-season with one of the two or one of the "big four" rookies or it's a fail. If we move on Mac Jones then I don't think we learned poo from the Teddy fail. I think Mac Jones is probably a Teddy-ish type QB at the NFL level.

A 2022 1st? It would allow us to likely grab Rashawn Slater LT at 8.

It's a decent price.  Not the most dream inducing route but would put us in a competitive spot and we wouldn't have to give up any young players.  If the gamble doesn't pull through then we're drafting a QB in 2023.  The window if he's legit is probably until 2024/2025

You have to look at what other teams would give when you are trying to figure out what it would take you to trade for him.

There are teams later in the 1st round that would happily give up a first.  For a good team, just needing a QB such as Indy, what helps you more? using your first on Stafford or Trask or Jones

So if Indy or the Pats would trade their 1st what would we have to trade to move ahead of that?  Our first?  that would probably work but honestly that might be too much, so you offer next years first.  Why would they take next years first over a current years first from another team?  That is why you have to throw in the second this year.

I'm not saying we should give up that much, but it makes sense that it would take that much when you look at it logically.

Yeah, I was just having a similar conversation with a friend about the Harden deal in the NBA.  That deal sucked for the Rockets.  Sure, they got oodles of first round picks, but they got them from a team that expects to compete for a championship every year, so you're talking about mid 20s to high 30s first rounders.  Those picks are completely different than a team in the bottom third of the league every year.  So, yeah, it changes the game a bit if a team like NE or Indy make that offer.  But, then again, unless Rodgers moves on from GB, outside of the teams we've mentioned here, most of those teams in the late first have QBs, so they won't be making too much noise in this market for Stafford or Watson, but we'll see.

Matt Rhule tried to recruit Mac Jones to Baylor.

Whether that means anything now? Unknown. If he looks good at the Senior Bowl though...

Fans have a bad habit of lumping all 1st round picks together when talking about trades.

Our #8 is a different category than Indy's 21 or Patriot's 15.

Likewise our #8 is nowhere as valuable as the #2 of the Jets or #3 of the Dolphins when talking about trading for Watson.

I'd offer 2 2nds or next years 1st, just to see if they'd bite. Get Stafford, draft Slater, and keep our young players? So much win.

It means we didn't learn poo from the Teddy mistake. You don't waste your time with severely physically limited QBs.

lol

You seem to follow college a good bit.

I'm not a fan of later round QBs, but what about Newman?  Isn't he going to be at the senior bowl?  If for some reason the first round QBs don't work out for us, any redeeming qualities?

He is. I think he's the most intriguing QB prospect at the Senior Bowl.

I don't want to come down on Jones too hard. He's very smart. He's very accurate. He could definitely help himself in the Senior Bowl environment where he's removed from his dominant roster helping him. But, he's very limited physically. His arm is average. His mobility is non-existent. I mean, those things are true of Tom Brady too, but there's a very, very long list of disappointing NFL QBs who fit that criteria and only one Tom Brady.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
