Panthers sign OL Pat Elfein - 3 years, 13.5 million, 6 fully guaranteed

Seemed like he was a promising prospect coming out of college but can't stay on the field getting bit by the injury bug nearly every season since being drafted.  I think it's weird to jump on a guy that quickly that is injury-plagued, versatile or not.  While the contract isn't bad for the position, it seems to be for this particular player.

I was going to suggest exactly this. Makes a lot of sense. From what I recall, he was a disappointment for Minnesota. But even if he underperforms, at worst he becomes a slightly expensive backup on a team with significant injury history on the line or just a straight up sunk cost of $6 million spread over 2 years. But the potential upside of getting a 3 year starter on the offensive line for $4.5 million per year makes it a reasonable roll of the dice.

Yeah I agree. I could easily see him not even starting this year depending on how the draft falls but if he’s actually healthy he can start or be a depth piece.

Bit of a decent write up here - at least has lots of clips in there breaking down some plays.

Smart, athletic/mailer guard who started his career as an all rookie center before getting hurt and moving to Guard.

Has played all 3 spots on the interior of the line in college and the NFL.

3 years, 6 million guaranteed. Even if he sucks and doesn't deserve to be on a roster in the future, that's a relatively easy out.

Yep. Expensive Tyler Larsen replacement.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
