I think the plan is to build the rest of of team while gambling on lower round QB prospects and veteran free agents. Then if you finally have the team, be bold and trade the world for your guy in the draft or from another team.

That is just about all you can do in that 5-8 game win purgatory.

I genuinely blame Cam Newton for ruining this franchise's fan base.

A lot of you have a QB obsession - there's 21 other guys on the field.

You blame Cam for being the only franchise QB in the history of the Panthers? Now that is an interesting take.

I think the larger issue is that we all see what having an elite QB means to being consistently competitive in the NFL. Until the rules start changing to favor the running game or the defense, the NFL will remain a passing dominant league.

That is why it is vitally important to have an elite QB. Not having that makes everything instantly much more difficult.

Probably not but anything is possible. Hard to suck worse than the Texans but they play with loaded shotguns so there is always a chance.

Until we get a QB we won't be contenders. The D looks like it will continue to grow stronger and the chances of hitting purgatory seems inevitable.

Agreed. Our only realistic strategy.

The alternative is to suck so hard in FA and the draft that we end up with a top 5 pick.

I'd argue we weren't consistently competitive even with Newton.

It's the cult of personality that fostered around him that has baffled me. But I appreciate I'm in the minority there.

It worked for the Chiefs.

That’s a ridiculous take...3 straight division titles, 4 playoff appearances in 5 years including a Super Bowl. How did we do in between broken Jake Delhomme and Cam without a good QB?

I think you are basically just creating a narrative that you choose to believe, which is certainly your prerogative.

But, your distaste for Cam and/or his fanboys really don't change the history of elite QB's and being competitive in the modern NFL.

Which, that also makes it tough to retain your core. You can only do that a couple of times before you start losing the team

Right. Sucking that bad in FA and the draft means you end up without a core.

The strategy right now seems to be

1) Build a team to attract a good QB.

2) Draft a QB that attracts a good team.

3) Luck into both.

    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
