Why would the Jaguars trade him?

He's a very affordable backup who has proven he's more than capable of starting in the NFL. Those guys are gold dust.

We would have to make them a strong offer-not a 4th rounder-maybe higher.  They have a ton of cap room and some early picks, but maybe they would take a third or so.  And you are right, they are gold, but they had him and threw him to the wolves, and I think this is the last year of his "cheap" contract...and there is this-he was rather screwed over by the Jags--maybe they do it for him.  Maybe they give him the opportunity to start because it is the right thing to do--maybe they do not want the tension that could develop between the two young QBs?  I dunno.

Why not just sign Alex smith and keep the draft picks? maybe we can get a good QB in the next few years? I think Alex smith could last a good 3-5 years in today’s NFL.  We can win with him if he can stay healthy. You can find franchise QBs in the mid-late first round pretty often.

Because Alex Smith is Teddy if perhaps ever so slightly better. There is zero reason to sign him, especially so with Teddy on the roster.

Our FO kinda poo the bed with Deshaun Watson tbh.  It's like no one there ever thought "Hey, what if we don't get him?"  Assume that the allegations never happened . . . we were still not the team with the best available package.  As a fan base, we kept trying to tell ourselves we could do it, but realistically, both the Jets and the Dolphins were in MUCH better position.

With all their focus on Watson, they never looked at lower tier players.  Players like Trubisky and Mariota signed for peanuts elsewhere, and frankly would have been a lot more exciting than TB5.  So now were in the position of having to give up value just so we can go in to next season with someone not named Bridgewater taking snaps?

Yea, that's on the FO.

It feels like they actually like the idea of Teddy being the guy next year.  Probably because of that contract they gave him but damn...Trubisky was dirt cheap.

The tension would be the reason. Not necessarily between him and Trevor but possibly between the fans and management of Lawrence struggled early on. Having Minshew around could muddy the eaters and I would think it would be best to send him out of town and get some compensation for him.

I like Teddy more than Trubisky and Minshew better than both of him. They’re some well informed hurdlers that’ve made the case that Minshew isn’t as good as guys like me think he is but I don’t think he was ever given an opportunity to succeed and he still exceeded expectations.

I've said before I think Minshew's ceiling is "good Jake Delhomme".

He is a rare gunslinger that has taken care of the ball, too.

I am all for getting him as a Teddy replacement. Our games would at least be fun to watch again. Ryan Fitzpatrick 2.0 is a good comparison.

I'd take him or a later round QB over Teddy.

I would take that in a second. I still rock my Delhomme jersey on game days. Good Jake was clutch under pressure and trusted his teammates to make plays. He was fun to watch.

Alex Smith was far better than Teddy.

Nah. Watched him week in and week out for many years here in KC and they're pretty comparable. Smith maybe throws a couple fewer interceptions. This is the QB that went 21 straight games without throwing a single TD to a WR that we're talking about here.

Well he does have better career TD% and INT% than Teddy, although not by much. I will say that he has had 15+ passing TD's 8 times in his career, something Teddy has only done once.

IMO, Alex Smith is the starting caliber version of Teddy.

Alex Smith has also had far, far better teams around him at times. IMO, they are very similar players.

On Minshew, depends on the cost.  I'm not sure I would want to give up a 3rd this year.  However, I do think he has a chance to be a good starter... He was benched so they could tank at one point, and although he did play a bit, they weren't going to let him win.

Just a note . We need more than 1 QB .  Greir and PJ need to go .  We might roll with Teddy but even if we draft a QB , we need a quality backup that might even replace Teddy . Memshew has the tools to be a good QB . And if all the good QBs are gone when we pick , Memshew is a great option at a much cheaper cost .
