Yep, but he's got to find that something extra to break through into greatness territory. Right now he's a factor in games, but he isn't something an entire offensive plan has to be built around.

They actually do game plan around him already.

DE’s/pass rushers usually need 3 or 4 seasons before it really starts clicking. That’s a general consensus. So you’re basically stating the obvious. I’m not sure anyone puts him in greatness territory yet. But Burns (along with Chinn) is the type of player you build defenses around. He is a massive building block for us. Barring injury/setback he’s gonna be a 15+ sack guy. Especially as the dline as a whole gets more experience with YGM and brown. He is extremely special.

Would like to see him make it home with the sacks more, to be honest. Let's put him in the "good" rating, but he hasn't earned the "great" label yet. He's never going to be Julius Peppers, but he still can work himself up to the Charles Johnson level.

Not meaning to downplay his potential, but he's still got a big ceiling above him and we need him to start reaching it. (He was still the best guy out there by far, but that defense last season was soft, weak and timid in most games.)

Agreed. The D made steadily  progressed last season and should continue to get better this season with the new additions. Burns and the D in general could benefit from another disruptive force on the DL. Hope we can find one in the later rounds.

We’re going to pay a ton to keep him.

Sure would be nice to start paying our draft picks who turned out to be studs instead seeing them walk for nothing. and instead paying shitty valued positions like LB and RB and/or injured olineman and/or washed up fan favorite farewell tours.

I’d be ok paying a pass rusher.

I’d be less ok, but still ok, getting some picks for him and not pay him if for some reason him (or a player) wasn’t going to be a fit going forward.

It usually takes a DE three years, much like Johnson and Hardy.

Nobody has been Julius Peppers since Pep. Unicorn.
