I'm A Jets Fan Who's Hated Every QB We've Had Since Namath; Ask Me Anything

Ideally all the pieces work hand in hand to create something greater than the individual parts.  Football is the ultimate team game.  A franchise QB is the most important part of that team, but not the end all-be all.

It's a great place to start and should be looked at first until it is resolved. Next comes LT because it is the second hardest spot to fill and can ruin the 1st.

A great QB would put us back into playing for a winning season.

Did we consistently go very far with Newton?

Even when you have that, you do still have to build around it.

Right, we’re all saying the same thing. You need it all. Some people just want to solve the QB problem first, some want to build the team first.

Personally, I don’t think it makes a ton of sense to build an amazing team without knowing if you’ll be able to get a good QB. Amazing teams are hard to build and typically only stay together for a year or two.

Many ways to skin a cat in football.

BTW..We went far in 2015 when Cam was actually great. Look what he did with a sub par WR Corp.

Personally, I appreciate smart fans' perspectives more than the pro analysts'. As such, I'm more skeptical about Darnold than I was, but there's still hope.

I just hope Justin Fields falls to 8.

I would love to get Fields and see them battle. So we can get rid of Teddy

Was at the 2013 Game.  Fun Stadium, Fun City.  Good people.  Went home with a loss.

Title says it all.  Happy to offer thoughts on your new QB.

would you agree that in the the last half century (50 years), the buttfumble is the most iconic and memorable moment in Jets football history?

Well, it's not a popular opinion, but I don't think that Newton was ever a truly elite QB, mainly because of inconsistent mechanics and decision making, so it's no wonder that we couldn't get the consistency necessary to win a championship, especially when you add the mismanagement of adding a consistently great line and weapons around him. It just was never meant to be.

I think what people forget is that the Buttfumble happened on Thanksgiving.

So, yes.

The Jets, and specifically, Mark Sanchez, ruined Thanksgiving.

Of course Mel Kiper likes the deal and gives us a A+. He says, "stats lie," and he hopes Darnold goes the way of Josh Allen and proves everyone wrong because he believes Darnold still can be a highly competent QB.

Mel Kiper, 2017: "I think when you look back at John Elway, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, we're going to view Sam Darnold in that same light."

Sounds like someone doesn't want to admit that they were, maybe, just a bit off here.

I watched it happen.

My buddy and I were both like "Did we just see that?" 😳

You'd think Kiper would be used to being wrong.

That’s it. We’re fugged.

    • The key to the game is to put it on Bryce's (and the PASSING offense's) shoulders. Instead of the running game. That will keep the Rams defense guessing, open up run lanes for Rico/Chuba, and (assuming this gets the offense into a rhythm) keep the defense fresh through all 60 minutes. The defense needs to keep Stafford off balance all game long (so it’s important that the offense stays on the field and gives the defense enough time to rest and remain fresh). We keep talking about the run game needing to get better, but that will not happen by leaning more on running; it will happen more by passing. And stick with this strategy till the end. Stop treating Bryce with kid gloves. Stop playing it safe. Take chances. Give Bryce the reins. Open up the playbook for him. Even if we lose, we will at least have some answers to some of the muddled questions about the off-season and path forward. This was his 3rd year, for goodness' sake, how much longer are we going to experiment? And if we win and go to the next round, that just improves our chances, as the next team won't know what to expect from us either (right now, they know what to expect, which is why we lose). This makes it a win-win-win all around, not just for this season, but looking ahead to the next few years.
    • How did they not sack him there? They had him dead to rights
    • We are not talented enough to pass on the best player available regardless of position if you're honest with yourself. Just go bpa and you can't go wrong if the talent pool is deep enough.
