With all respect and not to be argumentative, why?  2 + 2 = 4 in any zip code or time zone.  If something is demonstrably true, does it matter if said by D, R, conservative, liberal, boomer or millennial?  Facts are facts and ‘they’ are pretty stubborn about it.

Anyway, I’ve probably strayed too close to the Tinderbox and I come to the Huddle exclusively for Panthers conversation.

Grace and peace to you.  My apology to anyone I may have offended unless you are an Atlanta Falcons fan.

It was in jest. Totally agree with the Falcons fans comment!

David Carr

But it is funny that someone thinks they can validate a statement by using a rookie who was asked to start on an expansion team as a worst case or equal situation--but I would argue that Carr had better coaching than Darnold did. Either way, if Carr is the comparison, the point was made.

Carr was just the first name that popped in my head. Did Jamarcus Russell go into any better of a situation? The Lane Kiffen era of the late Al Davis reign was a poo show for the ages.  Did Blake Bottles go into any better situation? How about Trubisky playing for Adam Gase Jr.? How about Baker Mayfield who has had four head coaches in three seasons?

If you're a top pick, odds are you're walking into a poo show and they're hoping you're a big part of what's going to turn that poo show around. You either become a part of the turnaround or you become a part of the ongoing poo show.

Dont know--it is a good debate---Carr got the hell beat out of him, Russell got paid and got fat---and Trubiski and Mayfield got better when the situation got better---

And yes, the Jets were a poo show, so lets see how Darnold does--he has no more risk than Fields or Lance, imo--so lets see.  Gonna be a fun draft-season

The only reason he has less risk is because there's less investment. There's a higher likelihood of a high draft pick working out versus a former high draft pick bust. The successful bust reclamation projects are few and far between indeed.

Seriously I’m not gonna argue about something that happens over 90% of the time... at least!

Wildly inaccurate, especially in today's NFL. The nickel D is the defacto base defense in the modern NFL. Oftentimes in a nickel formation their is no "middle" LB. Even in a 4-3 formation you have over and under formations with the LBs shaded toward one side or the other. In a 3-4 alignment, there are two MLBs. Who's your Mike? It's all about the checking the OL protections.

    • I believe I just read somewhere that the Rams don't do Top 30 Visits. I mean, it makes sense from the standpoint of trying to keep information close to the vest.
    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
