General Draft Week Rumors

Folks, your argument about Jones is crazy.  He puts the ball where it needs to be when it needs to be there.  Period.  How can you criticize that?  If he was protected, he should be.  If he had good WRs?  He should have--that is not a criticism.  You act like Lance and Trevor did not have weapons or an OL.  I have been saying this for months--he gets it done and it ain't pretty, but if you watch the tape--when he throws the ball (before the WR is open) that matters.  Yards after the catch are not WR stats--they are QB stats because the ball arrived before the window closed and the WR caught it in stride.  You are ignorantly bashing the national championship QB who has the highest completion percentage in NCAA history and averaged 349 yards per game.  Take Trevor, Fields, Lance, or Wilson and put them behind center in Bama, and they probably do WORSE or no better.  Damn.  So he can't run.  Not a RB.

He has been meeting with different teams and discussing playbooks/play calls etc...  I heard he met with one a month ago with many in between and when the followed up with him he could recite the exact plays they run/tendencies etc... He is a football junkie like Luke who has a crazy memory (possibly photographic). This was from the Pat McAfee Show, I wasn’t high on him at first, but he should be solid in the right system.

Looks like based on the current rumors (with Pitts looking destined for Atlanta, Chase to Cinci and Smith/Waddle to Miami) that the Panthers at 8 should have a high probability of drafting either Fields or Sewell.  If the Patriots do trade up in front of us at 7 with Detroit for Fields,  we will literally have one of the best LT prospects in a long time staring us in the face.  Cant wait for thursday.

Hope you’re right but I still can’t see the bengals passing on Sewell

If the Falcons stay at 4 and take a TE with the kind of offers they have received, I think they are genuinely silly.

Unless they don't view him as a tight end. He could also be seen as a big receiver. He's almost exactly the same size as Megatron. The fact that there are Julio trade rumors might give this even more merit. Remove the TE from in front of his name and add the letters WR. Does it still sound silly?

It just doesn't seem like the year to be getting in to the inflated market for the QBs that are there.  High demand doesn't make them better prospects.

When you are Belichick, though, you have the idea that you can turn anyone into a multi-ringed Super Bowl champ. History is beginning to show that it might not have been Bill that was ringing the bell, though.

Still, if he sees something or someone he wants, there's no GM in his way to stop him from making that trade. At least no GM in his office that'd do it, there are some GMs out there that'd do anything they could to stymie him.

Is this a veiled threat lmao

Over the years, I've seen some pretty wild non-answers from coaches and GMs desperately trying to avoid saying anything about their draft plans.

But up to now, I don't recall anyone else questioning the continued existence of the entire world to get out of giving an answer.

This one takes the cake.

Will the Panthers actually take Justin Fields if he's there is the question..Schefter now saying there is a 95% chance he's available at pick 7, which means unless Detroit trades out (which isn't high odds according to Peter King) the chances of him being available for the Panthers are extremely high.  I hope they do!

    • I like Jaycee a lot and appreciate his leadership but to say he's above Ramsey right now is based on hopium let's be realistic. He's got a great deal to prove this season. I’m hoping to see that he firmly establishes himself amongst his peers.
    • It’s amazing how simple it is. When you are winning 2-7 games for 7 straight years, you’d think people would understand that just drafting some starters isn’t poo unless they are above average NFL starters. Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase started their rookie years like Legette did so we got an elite WR in the 2024 draft. Luke was a rookie starter just like Wallace. Damn we basically got a Kuechly and Jefferson last year. Bravo Dan Morgan!!!
    • I didn’t even say they would be starters. I don’t think Legette will be and Coker was not drafted. Coker chose to sign with us because our WR room gave him a chance to start even though we drafted a guy in the 1st. That should tell you something when Coker chose to come to Carolina even after we took Legette. We drafted and signed guys to potentially replace Sanders, who isn’t a starter yet over Tremble) and Wallace. Go look at our other drafts since Rhule. We had tons of rookie contribution from all of our recent classes. Why, because our overall talent sucked and we needed bodies. Go look at PFR. Here’s some of our players who “started” for a year: TMJ, Mingo, BC, Ian Thomas, Jermaine Carter, Dennis Daley, YGM and Roy. That’s what Legette and Wallace are right now although unless TMac bombs, Legette has kind of already lost his spot. We’ve had shitty drafts since 2018 and every single one has contributed at least two guys who’ve started so 2024 is tied for last right now and we just had a draft where we took 3 more players who play the same position as 3 of our top 4 picks in 2024 but somehow I’m saying that the 2024 draft class is good? Nope, the 2024 draft class was bad and our team is still in the low enough talent quadrant that lots of rookie contribute in our holes until we replace them. Been the same story since 2018 and accelerated as the old solid vets retired/move on.
