What we are now is not what this staff wants us to be. All that soft zone was because like you said we lack the bodies to run press man. Horn is the start of changing that. I think people need to look at big picture stuff with the clues that this staff has given us

I am still kind of bummed about fields. I wanted him over Horn. But these are the decisions that make or break coaching staffs. So we’ll see what happens.

Fields being there really adds a lot to my POV on this.   So does how they have handled the QB spot in general since Tepper/Rhule aligned.    Not a fan of how they are going about things of late there.

My beef with Horn at 8 has to do with a lot more than Horn in a vacuum.

Based on our need to field a competent offensive line to protect our average at best QB. Based on the high likelihood that this guy is a bust.  This is a top 10 pick, not pick 30 for a team coming off a deep playoff run. CBs aren't taking anyone to the super bowl.  Football games are won in the trenches and with a star QB play. Something we don't seem to understand based on our complete aversion to fielding an O-line that is worth a poo.  The one year or two that we have done it in the last decade it was merely by chance.

so you're opinion that he's not a top notch CB is based on our OL needs. cool.

We beefed up our secondary to play against aging matt ryan, jamies winston and 1 more year vs tom brady. Make it make sense.

There are 11 other games on the schedule and you’re foolish if you don’t think Sean Payton doesn’t have a plan for his QB position.

He could be a top notch CB (though I doubt it).  Even if he is, it ain't gonna make a damn bit of difference when the opposing offense gets to start on the 50 yard line every possession because we can't move the ball.   It doesn't help the team get better at a more important position of need. Total waste to draft a CB this high when there are more foundational needs on this team.

Dude, your reaction is typical Clempsun bs. Just because JC played at USC you claim he is not any good. He was the highest rated CB coming in. Just go with it, and maybe do some homework. And not go off your bias.

I'm a Clemson fan too and it's straight buffoonery but hilarious. The typically incorrect people are doing their usual thing just laugh bro

Every  game for as long as I can remember.

JC was a great pickup. We still have 7 picks. I am happy with how this started. Let's hope they can ride the wave all the way to Sunday.

Where someone is picked and who is available at the time....has a lot to do with how I critique the selection.

our roster is Sam Darnold, Grier and PJ...and we passed up Fields for Horn.   They are going to be rightfully blasted on how they handled that pick....until they prove their call was right.

Actually we beefed up our secondary to defend against Mike Evans, Michael Turner, Chris Godwin, Calvin Ridley, Julio Jones (if he isn’t traded) and now Kyle Pitts. Rhule said our biggest problem was not getting off the field on 3rd downs. Hopefully Horn gives us a fighting chance back there.

again, based on what? sounds more like butthurt than anything legitimate.

it's only the first round. this is purported to be a deep OL draft. there's several very good OL selections left. if we pick OL in 2 and 3 will you stop whining?

Our last super bowl team featured Cortland Finnegan and Robert McClain at DB, along with Norman.

In 2003, our CBs were Terry Cousin and Reggie Howard.

The common denominator in those years was that we had a dominant front 7.  You can hide a crappy secondary all day if you can pressure the QB.  Building a team from the outside in is a recipe for failure. Literally, you can patch together a competent secondary by picking up guys from trash heap after the last round of training camp cuts.

did you think that every time last year when it was 3rd and 13, and we gave up a 15yd pass? getting off the field on 3rd down is a rather important factor to allowing your offense to get back on.
