Could you imagine the piss and vinegar coming from Eagles fans if they didn't win it all in 2017

I know there’s still hatred now but God can you imagine how bad it would be.

Listening to eagles radio and podcast the last few years, their fed up with Howie.

They credit the superbowl to Howie's FA moves and cap. But drafting has set the team back.

Have heard some folks say Doug Pederson deserves the lion's share of the credit for that, but he and Lurie didn't see eye to eye.

I've said before that Howie Roseman is the Eagles version of Marty Hurney, but unlike what happened to us, it doesn't look like anything is going to save Eagles fans from his being the "GM for life" that Richardson wanted Marty to be.

Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane put together a "deep dive' article about him a while back.

Kind of an interesting tidbit here in McLane's article...

Roseman is known for going rogue on draft day. The scouts and the personnel people will have the next guy up on their draft board ready to go, and he'll just suddenly pick somebody else.

(speculation is that it's actually owner Jeffrey Lurie making those picks and Roseman is covering for him, but nobody can say for sure)

As you can imagine, this frustrates the hell out of the scouting staff and it's been cited as the cause for some of the team's worst picks in recent years.

One of those cases happened last year.

The scouts had a particular player pulled up as the next guy on their draft board, but Roseman shooed it away and "went big" as McLane puts it, by choosing quarterback Jalen Hurts instead.

So who did the Eagles scouts have teed up on the board?

Southern Illinois DB Jeremy Chinn.

(thanks, Howie) 😁

Roseman sort of has 8 x 10 glossies on Lurie over the Chip Kelley hostile takeover.  How far that gets him remains to be seen.

In some ways, it is almost like the Hurney to Gettleman to Hurney musical chairs, only the owner who thinks he has egg on his face is still in place.  Thankfully, not here.

From what I've read, it seems to be the same dynamic that existed between Richardson and Marty.

Loyalty.

That, plus apparently Roseman doesn't mind letting Lurie make draft picks for him.

    • Oh yeah the QB is huge in this stuff. Imagine what Smitty could have done with a surgeon back there. And some more offensive minded head coaches. It was always run heavy. He was one of the best I ever saw and people didn’t know who he was outside of Carolina, for the longest time.
    • For sure, any college scout that touted Bryce Young as worth the first overall pick, needs to be gone. I don’t think the college scouts are so much the issue, I think it is the minds of the decision makers that have the most influence.  If this draft produces, and Morgan was really in charge, maybe Tepper will develop some respect and stay back and let people work.
    • I just am not aware of regimens that offer increased velocity which is the biggest weakness I can see in Young (that needs addressing right now). Is it possible to do? Who has done it that we can see as an example? I guess I am saying before I believe weights will give him added zip on the ball, I would want proof that it works.    I think weight room would help him not be pulled down by two fingers, even if they are big strong DL fingers. They are still fingers controlling 185 lbs. So that needs to be addressed but it is a secondary issue behind his footwork and ball velocity. It might help too, in allowing him to retain some velocity while not putting 100% effort into throws. Which should help his ‘deep’ ball.  I agree they can’t fix his footwork on those pistol or gun snaps where he slowly goes backwards and does the tippy toe thing.  Maybe putting him under center and taking the option of that type of drop away from him, forcing him into the classic under center style. Drop and plant and throw. Maybe that would help get around it.
