Dead cap status

Can someone explain how Luke’s retirement causes dead cap?

When a guy retires, for cap purposes you treat it like you cut him.  So whatever is remaining of his signing bonus can hit either the year he retires or can be split over 2 years.

over the cap is very close to these numbers...Big hits are Teddy and KK, Luke is next.

However, for next year....

only $2,666,668...Tre Boston.

It's amazing how quickly he got us in Cap Hell again.  Gettleman got us out and once they brought Hurney back we went straight back to Cap Hell.

I don’t understand what he means by “get us out of the hole Hurney dug” its over abd done, aside from Shaq and Darnold theres no risk to any more dead cap other than Tre Bostons small impact.

He may be gone but it is far from over and done.  We have to live with his decision making on who to keep and who to let go.

Example.  Shaq over Bradberry.  KK long term, CMC long term (praying it pays off)

While he is gone his shadow is still hanging over us.

Bradberry wasn’t worth top CB money. He couldn’t cover his own shadow when it mattered.

Bradberry was easily worth more than Shaq. Good corners are hard to find and when you get one you damn sure don't let him walk to keep a LB unless that linebacker is HoF and that definitely isn't Shaq.

It really isn't, if you just followed his entire career here.

I still laugh at most of this board falling into the "he's a smart guy, he had to learn from his mistakes" nonsense when he came back.

I still get crap for it but each decision added up. Just stupid stuff. We had a gutted team last year and almost every addition made outside of the draft was a costly mistake to go for it. We did the same in Marty’s other two off seasons. Good teams extend their studs. We let them go and sign really expensive stop gaps until this year. Barring Darnold sucking, please let him be good, we signed reasonable deals with actual proven guys (not backups like Weatherly). Still a little concerned about Erving and Elflein, our most questionable moves, but Elflein, Reddick and Erving’s 1 year cost (on average per year) is just a little more than 1 year of Okung, so not a $70M+ waste like 2020 FAs/non-cuts.

Headscratcher, every single move.  But that's not surprising, he's done that his entire career.

Tepper allowing himself to get played by Marty is one of his biggest mistakes so far...and there are a PILE of them.

According to this, he was:

He was also named to the real pro-bowl as well. Shaq on the other hand was one of the worst ranked guys on our D. I think a Bradberry/Horn tandem would have made for a nice D.

Unlikely we're as bad on third down (and therefore value Horn as highly) if Bradberry is here. We might have gone in another direction in the draft.

    • Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.  It is just as likely to multiply them.
    • When has it not?     Also, when these starters play physical defense and turn that into transition offense, this team is downright scary.     that felt weird to type.
