Rhule on QB (Darnold) & my translation.

Why? He signed off on the signing of Teddy Bridgewater. A guy who had never shown the talent to be a high level NFL QB. At least Darnold has the talent. Whether he can put it all together or not remains to be seen.

What was your alternative? Run with pj walker or will Grier. How much would you be crying that he doesn’t know the value of the quarterback position then?

And to act that Rhule had full autonomy of the signing decisions last year would be a stretch.

Not saying rename the Lombardi trophy after him. I’m just saying, framing your statement as the guy all of a sudden had this flash revelation, that you saw all along and he didn’t, that the you need quarterback play to win in the nfl, it’s just like how is that a conclusion one could come to?

Still mystified this team didn't pick Justin Fields. Darnold is by no means a sure thing, neither is Fields, but it would have given this team two young, CHEAP QB's to battle it out and hopefully one of them would have emerged. QB is infinitely more important to win than CB.

Yes. That exactly what I said we should done if we were moving on from Cam. Signing Teddy Bridgewater to a significant contract is a lack of understanding of the value of the QB position.

Ok so in your mind, signing bridgewater, who without a doubt, is a much better quarterback than pj or Grier demonstrates how rhule doesn’t understand the value of the QB position.

because we’d have a shot, not a guarantee, to land Lawrence an unproven commodity

Yes. Because he gave Bridgewater 31M for one year of play that was similar to Kyle Allen at the 1M he could have kept him at. Add in many other questionable decisions and 80M in cap space was used for no reason at all. Think that might help with the OL?

Yes. Dumping that money into Teddy was an idiotic move. Not just Lawrence, but Zach Wilson too. All we did was spend money against the cap we'll never get back on a guy everyone should've known wasn't good enough.

You’re confused in thinking that rhule dolled out the contract. Teddy underperformed, I think to say that it’s an example of how rhule doesn’t value the qb position, when he was publicly criticizing the teddy’s play makes no sense

Ok so is “spend money against the cap that we’ll never get back” an example of how he doesn’t value the qb position or is it an example of a business decision not working out?

Cause it sounds like you’re trying to deflect from the original premise which was that rhule didn’t value the qb position

Even more of a testament to his abilities as a coach and organization builder. And really how many great quarterbacks have come out of college in the last five years compared to how many college programs there are? At most 2 a year.

Rhule is a great college coach.  But there are lots of great college coaches that won't make it in the NFL.  Different animal.   Rhule has never built teams and won in the manner required to in the NFL though.

Saban went right back to college when he couldn't get a QB in Miami.   No QB?  Saban said it was impossible to win in the NFL and he wasn't hanging around without it.   Miami opted to bring in Teddy/Darnold types.  He said bye bye.

Great QBs are rare.  So when you have a chance to possibly grab one you need to take the shot.  Love or hate Fields.....that was one of those lotto tickets a team without a QB has to take. NFL runs through the QB.

No, I'm not. My point is we spent significant money on a QB who lacks the physical talent to be a high level NFL starter. My guess on why? Rhule and Brady (college coaches) thought they could "coach him up".

No they brought him in because he had tape of him succeeding in the system they run. Not because the “college coaches thought they could coach him up”

    • Oh it's nothing elite, but we played without Horn last year.  Gilly playing at 80% is better than any CB2 we have had in a moment.  Luvu was fun, but he was out of position in Evero's defense.  Jewell is a tackling machine and has had over 100 in 3 of his last 4 with his highest being at Denver with Evero.  Pass Rushing and CBs are strong red flags but they also were last year.  On paper it's the same or maybe slightly better than last year and Evero had them keeping us in some games.  Hell our 2 wins were due to the defense and the kicking game.
    • I mean best case scenario is horn plays 15ish games, brown and clowney replicate last years stats, we sign gilmore and he reverts back to form after his injury but even then we still lack pass rush and our linebackers are dogshit.  And thats best case.  If horn goes down and if clowney starts showing his age then it could get ugly.  We are going to miss the tenacity of luvu.
