How is this the same tried bs though? Or are you just talking about being critical of Rhule?

I just think it is an odd enough call to question Rhule on it.   He is very green so things are going to happen.

Not thinking your 24 year old QB who is brand new and hasn’t been a very good QB to date….doesn’t need preseason game 1 or 2 is unusual enough to call out IMO.

I mean, the case could be made Sam is once again not being out in the best position to succeed.  His QB room sucks.  His OL sucks.  And now we are holding him out of game simulation reps which isn’t the norm for someone like him.  I know I know….great weapons and Joe Brady.  Those are great things he hasn’t had.   But some of Sam’s issues have always been Sam.

My take is that one or two series in a meaningless game is not worth getting upset about. The Colts and Panthers went at it pretty hard. I expect there to be some fight and penalties this Sunday. The offense hasn't been fully installed and the starters just practiced for 4 hours against the Colts. So I don't see the problem in waiting until week 2. We may or not have a worthwhile backup which we need to find. So both guys will get plenty of action against a good team and we need to nail down our backup wide receivers.  Other than the disappointment of not seeing him play, what is the big deal? No argument I have heard to start him is very convincing so far..

I don’t think there really is one. It’s all the staff’s preference and not too relevant until game 3 when they are getting in sync fir the regular season. We still don’t even know who our starters are on the offensive line yet…. I think us fans are just trying to find something to discuss this early in preseason.

But there are compelling reasons to get PJ and Will work to see what they can do. And to see guys like CJ in action to determine if he is the real deal. Frankly I am glad the starters are sitting. I haven't heard or seen much of the starters let alone the backups.

We aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year so let’s keep working on developing our team with our coach who is known for turning teams around in a short period of time.

That's why I'm not too concerned with the record this year, history says he doesn't have a winning season until about the 3rd year, but that was College..... COLLEGE FOOTBALL VS NFL...

Yep the 3rd year has been his sweet spot. The players seem to be buying in to the culture. Some progression this year would definitely go a long way. Fair point about college vs NFL.

Stafford isn’t playing with his new team in preseason game 1. Who does McVay think he is?!?!

Rams are a win now playoff team that added a strong veteran QB to hopefully put them over the top.

we are a 5 win team trying to rehab a young bust QB

these two things are not the same.

overall NFL coaches are repping guys like Sam Darnold.    Rhule is against the grain here.  That is what it is.   You can be cool with Rhule not doing what experienced NFL coaches are doing.  Maybe he is smarter than them.  But it remains something fair to point out.

Are you mad at other teams that sat out their QB1?

Are you just mad because Rhule does things differently?

Or are you mad because Sam will miss a handful of snaps. In a meaningless Pre Season game?

You are willing to risk injury. In a week 1 Pre Season game. And I think it's fair to call you out on that.

    • And that makes you right.
    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
